87 into 92? 4cyl

hey guys, im new to the forums and new to the toyota trucks here... Ive always had big F150's and 250's and sold them before i got married and I bought a 92 yota ext cab 4cyl off my buddy a few months ago...

During deer season, i blew a head gasket on the truck.. I went the cheap route and put the block seal in it but it did not work as well as I though it would.. so I found a deal on an 87 yota with the 22re(i think re) in it for $600.... Everything is in descent shape on it, with a new set of tires and im going to do the engine swap on it...

In the meantime, i found a guy locally on craigslist, that has a set of heads for the 22RE motor, but he said its only for the 80 through 87 models... not the 92, which I would need...

The guy at Autozone said that they changed the heads in 84, so the heads are the same from 85 through 95..

Then, the guy at Advanced said that the heads were similar BUT, there are 4 different shaped or types...

Can anyone clear the head issue up for me??

Here is the ad...:

This was bought on eBay to replace a head on a 20R Toyota engine but it was the wrong head because Advance Auto's web site had the number incorrect. This is an American Cylinder remanufactured head,,part number AC247C. 8 Valve;SOHC for Toyota trucks/Suv/4Runner. Fits

22R L4 2.4 Liter, 2bbl Vin#s R, OHC-SOHC
22R L4 2.4 Liter, Diesel Vin#s L, 2L OHC-SOHC
22R L4 2.4 Liter, Turbo Diesel Vin#s L, 2LT OHC-SOHC

Selling a "set" of heads? Sweet!

Anyways, from everything I've read, 85+ are all compatible with each other.

Engnbldr shows 22re heads 85-95, so that pretty much says they are the same

Sorry guys.... Im no mechanic...

Plus, this is the first 4 cyl Ive owned...

I was wrong on the year of the truck I just bought.. Its actually an 88, with the 4cyl, and it only has 140K miles on it, and the truck had a brand new set of tires on it... The bed was rusted pretty bad, but everything else was "ok"

I went ahead and picked up a new clutch assembly and im going to have it put in and a new timing chain since the motor and etc will be out...

I called Advanced Auto again and they done a cross reference for me. They said the Head i needed was a 248C.. The one the guy has for $160 is a 247C, but its supposedly works on the motors clear up to 86... like I said, im no mechanic by any means... I can do the basics, but if that head would work, id buy it and throw it on the bad motor and then sell the truck and get my money back out of it...
