4.3 swap;)

allright my moms S-10 overheated and is knocking so im guessing shes gonna get a used motor for it and im gonna slap it in, so in otherwords free 00" vortec 4.3, a buddy of mine has a turbo 350 and a np208 i bealive, you guys think this would be a pretty good setup?? im prolly gonna rebuild the 4.3 or possibly new bearings, what all would i need for this setup? i know ecu harness from another truck but anything particular i should go junkyarding for? for the most part it should be a complete motor - the harness and ecu, its going to be going into the truck in my sig will it fit with ifs?

Hi, I heard something about the oil pan gets to close to the diferential, some people recomends to use one from an astro van, Your truck looks pretty high so you won't have problems with that. good luck.

since it is knocking you are gonna rebuild it?
so than you have time to do a lot of research-check out the engine swap folder

I would just use the stock Toyota transmission and transfer case...AA should have an adapter

Do some searching in the motor swap section. Check out some of my build too. the 4.3 is a great choice for motor into the toyotas.

You could use the auto no prob and it wouldt be a bad idea and theres tons of strong aftermarket for the np stuff. I personaly would use a manual with a V6 motor and use autos with the bigger V8's but thats just my opinion. Will have to keep in mind you need to make a new crossmember for it. AA is $$$ for alot of parts very true. youll need motor mounts (or make some ) and some headers just to name a few things

The auto with the 4.3 works great. I wouldn't go with the 205, but thats personal opinion. I use the 700R4 and although I already had a custom crossmember, the t-case mounts in the exact same place as stock. True the AA adapter is pricey, but well worth it. The Toy t-case rocks and has so many options.

You would be better off buying a complete Astro van with the 4.3. That way you get the matching ecu and harness. They are a dime a dozen, my brother sold one for $500. Ive seen them for as cheap as $200.

well im about to do the same swap but thinking of carb and small cam in the 4.3 i suck with wiring and dont want to mess with the ecu crap i dont rock crawl but trails and mud r bigger in ohio(not much trails left here ) so the carb thing wont be a problem i think good luck on your build ohhhhh hey phil awesome and very informative thanks you should start your own custom toy shop or make a kit yourself and market it
