3.4 swap need help

I bought a 3.4 engine from a company near me for a decent price but the probably is I have no idea what year or model the engine came from and need to know what year at least it's from so I know what parts to get for it. All I know it's newer then 1997 because it has three wires for the throttle position sensor when the mid 1997 and older 3.4 had 4 wires for the throttle position sensor. So I am wondering is there any other changes over the year that can be figured out the year by??

Is it coil on plug? If so that would be after mid 98.

Did you get anything else or JUST the motor? Did you get the engine harness, ECU, or any of the other things needed for the swap?

Look up the ECU part number and find where it was used. Type the number in to the Google machine, then go find the Toyota Part Zone link (or any of the others) and see if it list applications.

They made an ECU specific to every model, option, and year, so if you can track down info on the ECU you can find where that motor came from, assuming of course that they both came from the same donor.

Problem is that like 2 or 3 numbers on the ecu are scraped off. Was sure if I can just bring it to toyota and have them plug it in or something to figure it out

It's a shot in the dark, but could you post the part number (with an X for the unknown number), or a picture of the ECU?

Is there a part number tag on the engine harness still?

The other thing to try, is that I've heard that there's a VIN tag on the motor somewhere behind the timing cover, that could prove useful.

So based on the part numbers for the ECUs I was looking at for my swap, it looks like you're only missing one number, 1, which would give you a part number of:

89661-26700

Looking around online for that part number, it looks like it's from a 2000 2wd Van that doesn't look like it was offered in the US.

Does this look the same as yours?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/00-TOYOTA-GR...-/370803491119

If it is, you may have a mess on your hands.

The numbers under the part number arnt the same as mine. But I I'm not sure if you saw my other picture I posted it might be a 2000-2003 tundra. But I need to get a new ecu for a
Manual transmission and a new wired harness

I also just notice some of the 3.4s had the oil filter in the front of the engine while on mine it's at the rear of the engine. So what does that tell me?

All the ones I've seen the oil filter is in the front, and there is an oil cooler at the rear.

If you bought local would the company know what the engine came from? They must have some paper work on it.

That makes no sense unless there stolen. Any decent company will have information on their inventory, buying, selling etc.
