3.4 swap or 3.0 rebuild?
My 88 xtra cab has a 3.0, runs fine but shows its age, especially at higher speeds. Wondering if i should try swapping in a 3.4 yota v6 or just get the 3.0 rebuild(thinking about LCEngineering)? Im running stock tires and 33 are in plan in the near future?

Go for the 3.4!
I just got my 94 4runner back from having the 3.4 swap completed. By all means go for the 3.4 vs the rebuild of the 3.0. There is no comparison in power and the 3.4 gets better millage.

I have a 94 Yota Pickup with the Infamous 3.0 V-6, It blew up. I decided to go the re-build route and have regretted it ever since. When it blew up it burned a hole in the #1 piston and scarred the Cylinder wall all up so the shop had to bore it out 20 over to get the scratches out. It runs great but i have had to take it back 3 times for oil leaks and the Gas Mileage sucks!!! (12 MPG with 32x11.50's)... It will do a burnout if you hold the brake pedal. to do the 3.4 conversion you have to much stuff to deal with, Wiring harness, Motor mounts, Transmission Bolt-up, all the computer stuff, the list is endless. Overall i am happy with my decision!!! Good Luck!!!

I am in the middle of a 3.0 rebuild as we speak,I found a 3.4 locally for $800 but with 135k miles on it,I felt I would feel better going through it.I did my research and after all the money it would take to get the 3.4 in and all buttoned up I could rebuild my 3.0 v6 3 times. The first 3.0 made it 290k miles before the first headgasket/cracked head problem.I have had 2 other 3.0 v6's with over 250k with no problems.dropping a 3.4 in sounds nice if it was just "dropping" it in with a few hundred in conversion parts, but its not.I have a buddy here that slid a Vortec 4.3/4l60/241 t-case in for less than $1000.Now thats a combo!
Back on topic,I will be putting my trusty 3.0 back in and hope it makes it another 150-200k.

3.4 swap for sure. They have a lot more power than the 3.slows and you are still going to run into troubles in the near future with a rebuilt 3.0.

After much consideration, I've decided to fix up my truck(needs paint, body panels, and front diff) and sell for a 3.4 liter taco, just needs a good lift for it....
