20r/22r Hybrid. Is it worth it?
I have a 87 pickem up with a messed up 22r. The the head is warped and the #3 cam journal is toast. I have been researching the 20r/22r hybrid and am riding the razors edge to going that route. I found a guy that has the early 22r block and 20r head with intake. Is it as easy as building the 22r? Is there any thing that I need to know about it? Is it worth building over just rebuilding my 22r? Is there an adapter for the 22r carb? I am kinda having a hard time finding a real pros/cons and how to write up on this hybrid. My only other option is another guy I know may have a 22re head and I would just rebuild my 22r (hence riding the razors edge). I just really want to get my truck runnin again so I can do some wheelin.I have read that putting 22r valves, cam and rockers in it makes it better. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've only heard good things about it. I think it's pretty cut and dry but i'm not sure about the carb.
In my opinion, a 22r was designed with a certain compression ratio and cylinder volume for a reason, as was a 20r. Start messing with that stuff and you will compromise some reliability and longevity.
I would rebuild the 22re. Maybe even efi swap it while you're at it. Much better for wheelin.

Both of you have been here long enough to know the rules about language. Knock it off please.
Hybrid motor will be a pain for little gain. Rebuild what you got and add efi or propane.

What machining needs to be done in order to put the 20r head on the 22r block if any. Im new to building motors and dont know that much. I have an 86 pickup that is worn out. What year stuff do i need? An how hard is it really for a beginner?
