Ok guys i got an opportunity to buy a 1988 ifs 4runner with the toyota supra engine already dropped in for $600. The guy just tells me that it needs wiring and ECU work. Should I take him up on it ? and anyone who has had expirence doing this (wiring and ECU work with a supra) is it a tough job?

600 bucks seems really really low for that set up, I would wonder what the catch is, truck condition, motor condition, miles etc etc. plenty of guys have done this swap nothing you can't find with a search. Need way more info to tell you if it's a good deal or a nightmare that someone is tired of dealing with.

Yea it seems kinda sketchy, I won't even mess with it then. He hasn't provided anything about the motor but that its a supra engine, and I can only wonder if rust is an issue on the body.

yea seems like one of those "too good to be true" cases.
on the other hand, if the engine IS in good shape (no internal issues, blown HG etc) then the wiring is really easy for those engines....

If the 4runner is in decent shape, exhaust has been run, cooling worked out, transmission mounted and clutch working, it could be a good deal even if the motor is dead and wiring isn't completed. If all of that is there and most of the swap complete, you could rebuild the motor and complete the wiring for not a whole lot more.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is a lot more to the swap than just the wiring and bolting the motor in, so $600 could be buying you a lot of time that you don't have to spend AND a 4runner shell. Just be ready to spend the time to complete everything...

I just bought an 85 2wd 2.4d standard cab pickup that was converted to 86 IFS 4x4 with supra 7mge motor, i paid 500 for the thing and the engine was rebuilt with lots of work done including shaved heads, fresh headgaskests and torqued to 75lbs instead of the stock 65lbs only had less then 30,000km put on since it was rebuilt too, truck was rusty though but frame and cab were solid as hell, just cut out rust and bolted new metal in box then some TLC. check out my build thread if you wa nt
