finally....

Purchased a few toys today....3" SAS kit, 12" long spline drive shaft kit, and all the little goodies. Thanks to Brian at WabFab for everything. It's taken me so long to do this because I knew very little school work would be accomplished if all of these toys were sitting in my floor.
I also ordered these....

Now, time for some tech...

I am concerned with my rear shackle angle. I am worried that it's a bit too relaxed. It sits at about 43.5 degrees on both sides. What do yall think?

Here is mine Tyler when I did the rear (springs were brand new) and had the tires on for comparison...see what I mean?

Thanks for the repeat business too!

Tires are here. SAS kit has been billed to my card. All I need now is a 4.56 third. Anybody have one?

My shipment of toys came in today, but I was too busy with another project to really go through it all. I expect to be starting my SAS within the month.
Anyways, here is what I was working on.

My tube bending process...

It's not the fanciest, but I do enjoy doing it all myself.

cool, is that a stock "hidden hitch" receiver? I've got one that I plan to raise up closer to the body and build a tubing bumper off of..

It's the stock one, I believe. It is, atleast, the one that came on the truck when I got it. It was a bit of a trick to raise it, but overall not too bad. It takes a really hot torch, decent sized Plasma cutter, or a buddy that owns a metal shop to cut the mounts and reposition them.

update

Ok, here is my progress: welded some gussetts on my axle (including shock mounts), painted/ prepped my large gussett and diff armor, made a front bumper, made a rear bumper, and mounted some Maxxis Bighorns (33x12.5x15 using airsoft B.B.'s for balancing). I will finish cleaning my knuckles, paint them, and finish rebuilding the axle. I also splurged on a new toy, check out the pictures...

My new traction toy....

hurray hurray

I now own a 1995 solid-axled 4Runner. Overall, I'm pretty happy. It was much more straight forward the the rear leaf swap. I've got an alignment lined up for tomorrow and I will bolt up my steering stabilizer tomorrow night. This should give me some time to examine the ride without the "stabilizer band-aid."

The only downside is that I really want the front to settle quite a bit. I am not too happy with my shackle angle or lack there of. It seems as if my angle is pretty common when using the trail-gear 3" springs. I am considering boomerang shackles for the front. This ought to help a bit. Can anybody provide some information about these?

Everybody has seen the endless SAS pictures, so I just want to provide some before and after (other than the shackle shot)....

Before

After

and some more...

And my front shackle angle:

Thanks. The cow-catcher will have to suffice until my fab skills are up to par. I need a real tube bender.

I have the trail-gear long spline deal that I will use to make a new shaft. I am using the stock e-brake cables. I would prefer another option, but I'm not having issues (or very many).

Everything is great after the alignment. I installed the stabilizer tonight and hope to see even better improvement.

I think that mine is placed somewhere around the left line. I will try to take some measurements this weekend...
