So, I started a swap this morning on 1986 Ext Cab
Figured I would give you guys a real-time swap timeline.
Here is a list of what this rig is and what its getting.
1986 xtra cab. 22R, 5spd.
4" IFS Eliminator kit
4" Rear kit
Still waiting on the guy to decide what he wants in the axles. Likely 5.29s, and ARBs.
Addicted Offroad winch bumper
It will be getting a flatbed as well before it leaves.
So, I started disassembling everything this morning. Once everything was un-bolted, its time to cut. Started at 10:35am, and by 10:55am the entire IFS chunk was on the ground. Its 11:55am right now and James is grinding the frame down to get everything prepped for the install.

Not the frame tubes. PO must have welded on some sliders right where the frame tubes need to be cut into the frame. I'll be modding the body mount to get access to cut this stuff out.

I'm starting to center and get the front spring hanger ready as we speak.

Its a lot longer to be honest. Its the dialing in of everything that takes the time. Link measurements need to be spot on etc. I would say that it adds 3 full days to the fab time.

I did get the axle under it and springs hung last night, but I can't get the pics to upload for some reason. I will take some more later. Not sure if I will even be working on it today since I may have to go down to Denver.

Okay, I haven't touched the truck since last week. However, today I got the axle stripped to bare metal and started welding on the truss and spring pad.
The gears and install kits showed up today, and the new Zip Lockers will show up tomorrow. So, I won't get much done until the 3rds are built since its counter productive to have to install all this stuff under the rig.

When you install the rear shackle mounts do you change it to match your hanger adjustment or do you use 2" & 3" recommendations per the instructions?

...The rear install is another one that needs updating. The install instructions tell you to move the leaf spring hanger at the frame forward 6" on the early 84-88 trucks and 84-89 4runner. However, from my experience, its wrong. I mount that hanger forward 7" on the 5" rear kits, and 6-1/2" forward on the 4" kits. I do this because as the rear tire compresses and moves back under compression, it will contact rear of the wheel well before its fully stuffed. However, with the new location, it will allow for a 35" tire to complete stuff into the rear wheel well with no rubbing and no trimming required. 37s do require trimming on the 4runners, but the pickups seem to be okay.

Do NOT take these measurments as gospel. Even after doing as many of these kits as I have, I don't just burn a hanger on without checking angles. I still tack weld everything and check my angles prior to final welding. So, the "measure twice, cut once" rule of thumb still applies. But, if you follow the measurements I just gave, then you should be able to immediately finish weld the stuff without moving anything. ...

However, I move the front hanger forward 6-3/4" to 7" instead of the recommended 6". This allows a 35" tire to fully stuff into the rear wheel well without trimming at all(or very minor at the most).
