Yay misfits...

Anyway I dont get why everyone who sas's a tacoma says its so much more work. It seems like you just cut everything off, welded in hangars, and the rest was the same too...

Misfits kick ass!

It's definitely more work doing a SAS on a Tacoma than the other trucks.

Things that have to be done on a Tacoma/96+ 4Runner but not really on a Pre-Tacoma/95- 4Runner.

- Plate frame inside and out on both frame rails
- Figure out steering box placement
- Steering shaft
- Make and put in front cross member
- Convert to pass side drop to use Toyota Axle
- Swap oil pans to T100 (whether it be 4 cyl or V6)
- Plus, Tacoma and newer 4Runner frames suck. They're week and made out of sheet metal. My next project after the SAS will be to box in the rear part of the frame.
- There's probably more but my brain hurts

Even after all that I still like the Tacoma. 4 doors would be nicer. Anyone wanna trade.

I got a bunch or nuts and bolts ordered from McMaster-Carr today. These will replace my differential studs and make it harder for them to back out or loosen up. This will do the same thing that Trail-Gears Differential Stud Eliminator Kit does, but for less money (around $27.00), plus I get enough stuff to do 5 1/2 differentials. That comes out to less than $5 per differential plus you'll still have washers and nuts left over.

McMaster-Carr #91239A428
Class 10.9 Stl Button Head Socket Cap Screw M8 Size, 30 mm Length, 1.25 mm Pitch

McMaster-Carr #91166A270
Metric DIN 125 Zinc-Plated Steel Flat Washer M8 Screw Size, 8.4mm ID, 16mm OD, 1.4-1.8mm Thick

McMaster-Carr #90685A04
Metric Class 10 Black Phosphate Steel Hex Nut M8 Screw Size, 1.25mm Pitch, 13mm W, 6.5mm H

McMaster-Carr #91169A200
Metric Black Steel Spring Lock Washer M8 Screw Size, 8.5mm ID, 14.8mm OD, 1.9mm min Thk

If you've upgraded your Knuckle Felt Protectors using the Trail-Gear Rock-Ring Knuckle Felt Protectors like I did you'll need longer bolts or you're going to play hell getting the old ones to start because they're to short.

Here's what you need to make the job a little easier.

McMaster-Carr #91280A326
Metric 8.8 Zinc-Pltd Steel Hex Head Cap Screw M6 Size, 16mm Length, 1mm Pitch, Fully Threaded

McMaster-Carr #91169A180
Metric Black Steel Spring Lock Washer M6 Screw Size, 6.5mm ID, 11.8mm OD, 1.5mm min Thk

For less than $10.00 you'll have enough to do both sides plus 8 more. If you'd like to only buy enough for the job Ace Hardware sells them and It'll cost you around $6 for enough to do just both sides of one axle.

I also ordered some new Energy-Suspension Polyurethane Body Mount bushings from AutoZone for when I take out the body lift. I figured that would be the best time to upgrade those bushings - plus the kit comes with stock hardware.

Part Number for the black kit is: "8.4103G" and the price was $73.00. That's $12.00 cheaper than 4crawler.com plus no shipping charges if you go into the store and order the kit instead of online.

This same kit should fit all 1995.5 and up Extra-Cab Tacoma's.

Yeah I enjoy doing motor swaps. I've got a customer thats paying me to swap a 3.4 into a 1989 Uhaul dually. He plans to use it as a work vehicle.

I'm going to start working on 4.0 Lexus V8 swaps next. I've got 1-2 planned for this winter. One will go into my beater.

I'll have a website up with swap info in a few months. I'm going to offer 2.7, 3.4 harness's and 4.0 and 4.7 swap stuff. Plus you can just drop your vehicle off, I'll do the swap of your choose then you drive off with a much cooler truck.

Thats my reason - because I wanna look good and mall crawl.

Have you seen how tall a SOA SAS'd Tacoma is?

If I don't like the SUA or get tired of it. All I have to do is move the axle under the leaf springs.

For now I feel a SUA SAS will work for me.

I gave this customer a fixed price. I'm going to keep better track of time, labor and materials (I didn't keep track when I did my swap) so I can come up with a price for future swaps.

The truck was built for Mall Crawling so It'll never see any rocks all I have to worry about is getting hung up on curbs and stuff.

One advantage is it keeps it low.

For anyone that wants to see updated info on the truck go here.

Here's some random pictures.

Steering

Bed Bobbing pictures

Got the truck in my garage so I could work on it during rain and at night. Plus I'll have heat too. Not much room.

This is going to be one hell of a Mall Crawler.

How to install a Wilson Proportioning Valve. Buy some 10" long 3/16" size brake line and cut the fittings off. Now make 2 new lines - you need them to have the stock Toyota fitting on one end and the 3/16" domestic fitting on the other end.

Here's some pictures.

The line I'm talking about in this picture is off the rear brake thingy. I just bent it some and put a 3/16" fitting on it.

Another picture. The line running down is the stock line. I just cut it, bent it and put a 3/16" fitting on.
