Parking brake after SAS

I am looking at a 5th gen pickup for sale. The owner stated that the parking brake does not work because of the SAS. Is it true that whenever you SAS you cannot retain the factory parking brake. If so, why is it?

The Toyota parking brakes I know are all on the rear axle.

SAS should have nothing to do with the parking brake.

A rear disc brake mod does render the stock E-brake inert though.

I understand that but he said because of the lift in the rear in he could not use the factory parking brake and I would have to buys a trans brake. He had a shop install the lift and the tech told him anytime you do a SAS you cannot use the parking brake anymore. Didn't make sense to me, that's why I'm here

Sounds to me like you know more then the owner.

Have you looked at this truck in person??

I would look very close!!!

Unless they were quite clueless and whoever did the SAS just told them this.

If The SAS was done with a rear lift Getting every thing working I would hope is part of the job.

If the E-Brake is not working rear brakes are way out of adjustment or being adjusted manually while not hard would be a pain.

Should be quite interesting to see how this plays out

I put a 3" TG kit on my truck and no issues with parking brake. I also used the 3" rear lift from TG and hooked it up same as when it was IFS.

It also depends on where you mount the new shocks.... If you put them like this -> /\ then the cable needs to be pushed back to clear the shock rod.

parking brake

SAS doesn't have anything to do with the parking brake, per se, but what he probably meant was when he lifted the rear to match, he removed the parking brake. Perhaps it was too short and limited droop, or perhaps the new leaf pack was too thick and interfered with the cable. For these and other reasons, many folks have switched to a t-case parking brake. However you can get your stock e-brakes to work. There are two styles of rear parking brake. The more common is a single line to the top of the axle housing, then splits to each drum. For that type, you typically need to add a bracket to raise the cable above the leaf pack and lessen the amount of cable you need. Many folks have done this successfully here, generally without lengthening the cables. The other style has separate cables from in front of the gas tank. This style requires lengthening the cables, which cost about $150. Just take off your old cables, send them in, and receive lengthened cables a week later.

Yes.

All I did was cut the bracket off the rear housing and make a new one that was about 1/2" taller and about 1" longer so it would clear the springs and shocks. Cost was about $2 in steel and about an hour and a half of install.

If you plan on daily driving the rig, it's better to keep the stock parking brake in case you get picked on by the popo's and get a VI.

T-case brake, if he has done the rear disc conversion. Otherwise it should work without problems? MY 92' runner SAS was just swapped with a new e-brake that was missing when the PO did the swap. I had no problems, just bolted it in and adjusted.

That's pretty cool!
My truck is missing all of the e-brake cables and handle/pedal/whatever an 80 would have, so I re-routed the rear hardline under the dash partially and installed a line-lock. So far, it works great!

You can put a picture of that thing anywhere! What an awesome machine. You should start a build thread to give us more details on it!

shop and or previous owner seem a bit confused. The thickness of the rear spring back can impact the position of the cable being able to reach the bell crank pivot for the E-brake.
pretty basic think to make a bell crank extention. 4crawler off road might even make one
not my picture but I did make a similar bell crank extension as this one for my 81.

great got sucked into an ancient thread..time to go home
