Anybody up for offroading Saturday? I'm thinking Reiter or Evans Creek, haven't been to either before.

 

depends on what time i have to work till like 12:30 or something like that.

 

Will probably be leaving earlier than that, since it'll be a bit of drive wherever we go.

Evans Creek is a blast. I was there last weekend and the weekend before that. I got some body damage on the 198 trail (and mad props from Gibby for running it at all!) which consisted of bashed left rear Bushwacker Flare, and I also got some dents and scratches from my roofrack hitting a tree on a serious off camber section. But my rig, Mpampo's 2002 4Runner, Deathcougar's 87 4Runner and Jimmy's 2001 Blazer (with smashed front and rear bumpers) all made it through. It was scary as hell in some places, and the mosquitos have no fear of insect repellent there! I highly recommend the place.

 

i think we should organize a run the first week of september.. that would be tight....but mabey we should stay away from naches....poo on them.

So here is what I'm seeing so far: Looks like there is an interest for a run in the first weekend of Spetember. SO, here is my suggestion: Lets go to Evans creek for the weekend! If we all meet there say 11 or so on Saturday, Sept. 6th, we can wheel and go from there, camping overnight on Sat. (BTW the reason I say 11 am is because it is quite a drive from Marysville to get there) If this sounds interesting to everyone, lets organize a run. I am very much excited to get back to evans creek and do some exploring!! Does this sound interesting to anyone??? BTW, having been up there, I do know of a few good spots to camp, and meet. Not to mention the beautiful scenery!!!

 

That's be a very good run. Just be careful with trail 198. That's a pretty tight trail. Once you're in it, there is not turning back. I'm just freaking out cause I've seen the damages sustained from the Elbe run that was run two years ago. 198 had some pretty tight spots for a 4Runner unless you're a better offroader than me. It scared the ˟˟˟˟ out of me.

You guys are funny. i remember being scared of trails like 198 as well. I still do. I still can't believe that you guys even made it through with those rigs. I bet your skills have improved some :o)

Were you scared because of the trail, or about doing damage to your rigs. If you're concerned about the damage, hook up with someone as a passenger. Evans Creek has several good places to park if you don't want to run a particular trail.

A word of friendly advice to anyone running Evan's Creek or any trails. Always go out with a trail leader who know's the trails. You hopefully won't end up going on trails that you don't want to be on.

I have to take responsibility for the group running the 198 trail. We had seen a bunch of Jeepsters and a Bronco II come off the trail, and well I was eager to take the challenge. I was the leader, and I had a lot of faith in my rig, and especially my rear lock right! 198 was an eye opener for sure. I think that it was the first trail that I have ever been on that I had some serious regrets while I was on it, and afterwards, I was pretty glad to have completed it. I was really impressed that the other rigs really did so well considering that I was the only one to have real rocker protection~and boy I thought I needed it! There were a few casualties (my left rear Bushwacker Extend a fender flare, and my Thule roofrack bars hitting a tree and tweaking a mounting foot while getting knocked off the mount bases on the right side as well as the 2001 Blazer tweaking the front valance and rear bumper) but surprisingly there was no real damage to speak of. I think that the next time that I attempt to tackle 198, I want to start on the 520 side. I need to remove the headliner and reinforce my rack mount plates underneath, and use real nuts on the bolts, as well as cut the overhanging bars on the roofrack as well. The flare is cracked underneath and still looks to be intact at least. So how much harder is the 311 than the 198? I want to try that one sometime.:pat:

 

311 is easier than 198. We've taken a stock 2nd gen 4Runner through there without damage. Since is a highly travelled trail, it's a little wider and almost every really tough spot has a bypass. That doesn't mean it's a cakewalk at a pull, lift etc may be required but you CAN and should get through that trail unscathed. Stuff always happens...

Last time out with Yotakid, he tweaked her right rear quarter panel. We could have avoided this with a winch pull but he wanted to try and he did make the obstacle, but he slide sidways one time and caught a stump poking out of the side of the trail.

I wouldn't try any of the black diamond trails without least one winch for every 2 or 3 rigs. It's not that they'll all need it, but you don't want the winch at the front when some guy 5 trucks back needs a pull. If you guys did 198, 311 will seem like a cake walk - OK not quite a cake walk but hopefully you won't be crapping your pants.

You guys did find your rigs' weak spots so that you know what to work on :o)

 

We are going up to Evans sept 6 and 7, looking for people to go with! So far we have a 94 Truck, My Runner, and an 85 Truck. Still looking for people who want to go up and camp on saturday!!!

Ok, well like I said we are looking for anyone. We will be meeting at the Chevron in Wilkeson at 11am, to get the forest use permits. Then we'll be setting up camp and going on a run. I plan on camping the night of the 6th after wheeling all day, and wheeling most of the day on sunday the 7th, so hopefully you can come camp with us. If not, we'll be on channel 4!
