The Safeway sounds good to me, and lets shoot for the 7:40 ferry.

Snorkel How much water on these trails? About the only water precautions I have is an extended rear breather- is this going to be enough?

Go take a look at http://www.wattora.com in the past events section. There are several Tahuya runs documented there and you can get a feel for what it's like out there.

After last nights monsoons, I suspect it's going to be pretty soggy out there

Looks pretty wet in spots. Hope I'm not going to be in over my head (literally!) in this run!

Hey Rob, curious whether Donna got her pictures developed from the run we did off Tinkham Rd.? Just curious whether she got any good shots of me (forest green 4-runner). I wanted to offend my father even more by showing him what I was doing to a perfectly good vehicle.

Stay out of "Lake Tahuya" in the middle and both of the hot tubs and don't crash the puddles too hard and you will likely be okay.

Damage comes from two things at Tahuya, first, ingesting water or second, stepping off an edge you didn't see.

Well, Donna shoots digital, so I am sure they are developed, but I have not seen them from her yet. I will ask her about them the next time I see her. She likes to sort out the blurry ones, so sometimes it takes a while to get her shots.

Well, hopefully the new sliders will help a bit, and when it comes to the water, I'm not in any rush to prove how tough I am. Thanks for the advice (and the note about the pics)

Anyone with a stock intake should be fine. It's my open-intake that I'm worried about. Last time I took on a bit of water.

Just keep it nice and easy through any deep puddles and you'll be fine.

If we take the 7:40 ferry, is 9:30 AM at the Safeway a reasonable meet time?

Yeah, I'd say so.
Meet between 9:30 and 10:00...leave for the trails at 10:00 with whomever has shown up. (?)

Sounds good- sounds like it might just be the three of us. My girlfriend will be riding along, I'm curious to see how she likes off-roading.

Sounds good Markus, I think it'll be you, me, and Jim. I've never been there before, so I'll leave it up to you two to decide where to go. I'm looking forward to it! I'm hoping to get my Firestik antenna installed tonight- the magnet mount put some nice scratches in my roof during the last run I did. Either of you have an SWR meter?

Sorry, no SWR meter. Are Firestiks tunable?
Rob (WATRD) usually has one...but it doesn't look like he's joining us. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about getting it fine tuned, should work just fine to reach us other two guys while we're on the trails.

That's cool your gf is coming. I still have yet to get my wife to come out. She's not to big on spending the day sitting in the car.
Be sure and bring enough cash for her fare also. I think it's like $9 for the car+driver and another $5 for the passenger. Also, I don't believe the passenger fee applies for the return trip (Bremerton to Seattle).

I bought some supplies for part of the snorkel...I'll see if I can make that happen on Friday.

Sorry, should have said Firestik II's- the guy at the CB shop said you can tune them by trimming off the tip. He said he'd do it for me once I got it mounted, so I may to get over there at some point this weekend. I agree though, we'll be in close proximity, so its not like I need a huge range or anything.

Basically it will go through the fender and come out near the firewall (closer to the cab). I have one of those weirdo cone style filters...so that will basically sit in a plastic box. The top of the box will be open, but eventually (... = when I finish it) will seal when you close the hood. Then there will be a hole in the hood, with a mushroom shaped vent that will let the air in. It'll look similar to what a Hummer has (although I think their's are on the roof?).

Sounds complex...but I'll take pics as I go along.

You're going to cut a hole in a perfectly good hood!

Did your truck come with the FIPK, or did you do it yourself? (can you just put the stock air intake back?).

Haha...that's right. Well, eventually this will be a trail-only rig. I'll be taking off the bed, and putting in some sort of tube/cage in the back. Also, taking off the IFS and putting in a solid axle. All must abide by my income, which will only cover a $50 ABS snorkel setup right now...

I put in the FIPK. Of course, I wasn't smart enough to keep the stock airbox. :pat:

I figure if I were to buy a used one now, and the parts for the snorkel, I would still pay more than just snorkelling my current filter. It's not ideal, but I'll make it work.

That's good to know...I had only heard of Nix99 (I think that's the name) until now.

Who knows when I might need a part or two.
But for now, I think I'm set on keeping the cone filter. Gotta be different, right?
