[WA] Naches Ranger District Proposal Meeting, July 24th 2004

Hi all;

Based on a "tete-a-tete" last year I got myself the Naches Ranger mailing list.

A meeting notice showed up in the mail yesterday that I figured I'd pass along. (the following info is not a quote, it's paraphrased for clarity ).

On July 24th (THIS SATURDAY), from 4pm - 6pm there will be a "field workshop" to discuss a) example of proposed actions in the area; b) to listen to input about the proposed actions.

The workshop will be held "in the vicnity of the toilets at Long Meadow", (appx .1 mile west of the junction of FR 1902 & 1922).

The following actions are under discussion and will be talked about during the workshop:
  • Establishing low difficulty "learner loop" trails
  • Designating camp areas within the existig 1.2 mile closure along FS 1900
  • Expansion of the 1/2 mile motorized closure to all or part of the Little Naches planning area
  • Expanding ATV opportunities
  • Correcting known resource problems, including closing, reconstructing, restoring, relocating or applying seasonal restrictions to the power line corridor, nonsystem trails or system trails.
  • Administration changes

The notice is signed by our friend Mr. Randall D. Shepard.

I URGE you to show up for this meeting. Note that they are thinking of closing more trails, yet expanding "ATV opportunities".

#$%^&*ing Ranger Randy... A pawn of the environmental movement and a tool to boot. How nice of him and his minions to remove me from the mailing list...

Wow, this is a date I can actually make.

Anyone else want to go?
... maybe we can get a carpool / carvan going?

How far of a drive are we talking?

Thanks,
Jim

Mark,
Do you mind if I cut-n-paste this over onto Snort? I don't see it posted up there at all...

I PM'd Mark about it. It's defninitely on the other side of the pass, I believe I know the location which is on the paved road at the far end of the Naches trail (don't know the number...) close to 410.

Jim - PLEASE post this over on SNORT, I meant to do it but kept getting distracted by work.

I THINK I can make the meeting. The weekend is really full, but this is quite the cause - I'm working on shuffling things around.

The bummer here is that I don't have 'net access at home yet, and I'll be leaving work tomorrow at noon. So I kinda' need to figure this out now, but that pesky work thing is in the way.

What's the travel time over to where you think it is Shane? Say from the Enumcalw Safeway?

Carpool wise, I was thinking that it may be "better" to show up with more rigs than less. My thought is that since this is outside, (versus a town hall type thing) then presence in numbers of trucks could be a good show of support. That way it wouldn't look like "I just grabbed my buddy who's never been off-roading".

Whaddaya think?

I think I will send an e-mail to the WATTORA list too.

I'd agree about car-pooling, but caravaning would still be fun. It's a pretty dull drive otherwise...

Mark, is there any chance you could scan in the letter to PDF? Or just fax it to me? I just want to have more details if people ask for it.

When you talk about car-pooling, I'm not sure if you were reacting to my statement or not, but to be clear, I'd vote to caravan. I'm thinking that showing trucks there would be more powerful than just showing bodies.

I don't have the letter with me today (doh).... I did find some info online though...

This is the Schedule Of Proposed Actions through 9/2004:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/pl...three-2004.pdf

What's fun is that the page that's SUPPOSED to be fronting that document is supposed to be linked from here:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/district/distmain.htm

But the actual link on the page is bogus ("htm" vs. "html").

Anyway, load that up and search on "Naches"...

Page 23 shows "Little Naches Recreation Plan". There're other things in there that I'm sure have hidden meaning.

Here's the Colville/Okanogan/Wenatchee (the Naches is in there, right?) forests plans revision site:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/colville/cow/

I'm looking for more info. I can fax you the letter tomorrow, but that might be too late to do much good.

Yeup, I'd be looking at almost 4 hours on the road. Shannon may come too, and she'd be at the 5 hour point.

C'mon Ben!

Give yourself at least one hour drive time from Enumclaw Safeway. I am going to try and make this.

Ahh, then it's closer than the Naches ranger station? When Rob and I headed there last year, I was thinking it was a 3 hour cruise.

It sounds like it's near the end of the trail, not all the way in the town of Naches. Should be an easy driver, over Chinook and down into the district.

Ha! It's 90 minutes from Enumclaw, and it's at least an hour to Enumclaw for most of us, A LOT more for some of us. Not to mention that we will be in traffic and you will be on wide open roads for most of the way

Schedule is shifted, I'm going.

Wanna meet at the Safeway first and then caravan? 4pm start, and we're guessing a 90 minute drive, so 2:15 hook-up at Safeway?

So who's coming? Jim, Shane, Ben's (west side) trying, Ben (east side), Shannon, myself, Rob?
