Well, the west side has the north winds that have already been degraded by landfall. The east side are south winds that haven't been impeeded and are the fastest. Also, the southern winds blow the water into the shore, causing a higher storm surge on the east side. Also, 90-95% (statistical FACT) of the tornados that form will do so on the northeast and east sides of the eye.

wow, i guess i actually got a decent edumacashun in fairhope.

Andy's right - East side is worse.

Come on J., you are supposed to know this kind of stuff. You're a Mobile native. Frederick survivor(right?)

I was talking to my dad on the phone(he's in Mobile) at about 8:15 and he was like; "Damn, did you hear that?" "Something just hit the roof hard."
Not fun at all.

yeah, but .... I took geo/met my freshman year at South, not a very good school which is why I left and went to bama.

I've actually survived quite a few hurricanes in Mobile.

hmm, I wonder how my dad is. my mom took off to Atlanta and my dad stayed.

Hope your dad is ok. It's getting a little windy here on the plains of Auburn. Gusting to about 30 MPH right now. It ought to be a fun ride in the trailer. I told my neighbors earlier to come wake me up if they hear the tornado sirens. I'm a heavy sleeper. I should train my dog to wake me up when he hears that sound.

BTW, it's past your bedtime ain't it J? J/K
Is your mom staying in Atlanta or coming on up there to where you are?

LOL, so you followed the Univ of S. Ala to U of A "plan" as well? Too funny.

It appears that Mobile was spared. The eye passed over Ft. Morgan Peninsula/Gulf Shores, leaving the north winds to push water OUT of the bay so any flooding on the west side of the bay will be from rain and not storm surge. Good news for them. Bad news for my parents house and our beach house.

Yeah, I thought about your beach house and folks last night when I saw that the storm was moving East. I hope everything is ok down there. The initial pictures don't look good.

My folks made it ok. I've got a few videos of the wind here but don't have any way to host them.

Well, Auburn's stadium is still here, maybe LSU will come into town and beat the hell out of Auburn on Saturday.

It was right around the corner from where I was today when it was bad.

Dogs were patient.

Brian,

I may try to make it up there. I have been wanting to come to some events for a while. Keisur told me that if I make it up there I can ride with him. I think he just wants me to be his spotting and picture whore. And I would gladly be that for some seat time in his 4Runner. Don't put me on the list for sure. I have to see how Ivan changes when I have to go home and help my folks move into their new house. If I came I would sleep in my truck like I always do. So, I won't need a tent spot per say.

It doesn't seem to be that bad of a drive from Auburn. Looks to be the exact same distance from Mobile to here and I do that all the time.

Brett,

How long does it take you to get there? I know what the computer says but I was wondering how long it actually takes.

Joey

About 4 hours depending on Atlanta traffic.

Thanks for the info. That doesn't sound like too bad of a drive.

It's not, in fact you could follow me, but I'll probably be going up either Thursday morning or midday Thursday. The worst part is driving through Atlanta-that is why I will be through there no later than 3pm eastern.

I appreciate the offer. I might take you up on that if I decide to go. It would be a heck of a lot easier than me trying to figure my way through there with no co-pilot. My last class on Thursdays ends by 11:00, if I even go to it.

If I am able to go I will probably take you up on that offer. I'll keep you posted.
