I'm going to *try* and take the whole week off and cruise through mojave and joshua tree on the way down. So I'll probably be there thursday night or friday am, depending on how I meander...
(and yes, I know they're not really on the way, but I'm on a quest to visit all the nat'l parks, and I haven't been to those since I was seven. that's 1972 to you whippersnappers!)
my boss, of course, has other ideas...
In the unlikely event he has his way, I'll be there by friday around noon-ish.

Look at what I got guys........
Complete 3rd member that is set up with 4.88 V6 Precision gears and an ARB LOCKER!!! I need to order the compressor and get this thing installed. My stock gears, 33's and 4cyl are becoming very annoying. Anyone in socal good at swapping 3rd's?

Marc:
Can you please make sure that we have a separate route/trail for the 2wd members that will be joining us. I believe we will have a pretty good turn out with alot of new offroaders so it'll be fun to have something setup for them as well.

I have been looking at my maps, and I would like to find a way to combine going from camp to pumpkin patch from there to truckhaven and ending at calcite mine. I have no idea how to put them together yet, but there has to be a way.
I figure the 2wd trucks could take a run to fish creek and go to sandstone canyon--lots of fast prerunning over washboard and some rocks to play on.
At some point I would also like to go to the slot--but that is a little more advanced from what I have heard.
There are so many trails in that area--I am very open to ideas

Brainstorming
Trip A
Head north through Ocotillo SVRA (4x4 Crossover trail) (2X4 Pole line) to S22 where (4x2 goes to Fonts Point) (4x4 goes to Calcite Mine to Truckhaven or visa versa)
Trip B
Head south west 78 to S2 and somehow combine Pinon Canyon (those who want to) Canyon Sin Nombre to Mud Caves down Diablo Dropoff (meeting up with Pinon Canyon Runners) and out through Split mountain/Fish Creek
When I get some time, Ill try this run through Canyon Sin Nombre-Mud Caves-Diablo Dropoff-Split Mtn in 2wd to see if its do-able.

I like trip A--That is pretty much what I had in mind. I have done trip B a couple times now, and am not too interested in doing it again.
Most of trip B can be done in 2wd, there is some soft sand and the canyon right after diablo dropoff would be tough in 2wd. That is why I suggested starting in fish creek and ending in sandstone canyon--Rob and Lance were with me on our first trip through there.

I was thinking about heading north out of Ocotillo to the pumpkin patch then taking tule wash to the crossover trail. Then hit calcite mine to truckhaven or vice versa. This will cover a good amount of ground with easy to difficult terrain.

Will these runs be starting late enough on Saturday for me to do, or should I just wait for another time, when I can get down there on a Friday Night? I hate to miss this the second time in a row, but I am concerned that I can't get there early enough to enjoy the day (after 4+ hours getting there). I will have to discuss it with my wife and see if I am being too ambitious.

I am still not sure if I will be going on fri night or sat morning. I would say we should hit the trail by like 9 or so, but if you are running late you could take s22 and meet us at the end of the crossover trail.
We have some time to figure everything out.

damn i want one of those arbs but i dont have the 1400 bucks with install. hey does anyone know if the iron door saloon is still open ant ocotillo wells nothing like a local watering hole. it's definately good for some laughs. late night sand huh sounds like mass fun i'll be there as long as i dont break something at tierra del sol. you guys should try to make that the raffle they have is worth the trip alone they have like 80,000 dollars in raffle prizes and everyone only gets one ticket. really good odds. and besides with my luck lately i might win something rad.

well have to figure out something cool for the 2wds. have you guys ever gone out to shell reef or the borrego badlands by the blu in there are some tiny tight little trails that are really fun. there is one, that if i can find it again is really fun it involves driving up the walls of this tight little canyon till you feel like your gonna flip it but there's no chance because it's so tight you'll only tap the top rear corner of your roof. the best part of it is the walls are super soft and even if you do touch your not going to get a dent or scratch
