You can camp right at Tellico, and there usually won't be many people there since it's cold now.

Hey, I might be up for the trip also. I will know as we get a little closer. If I do make it, I will have my wife with me.
Raven: how far is this area from Fontana Village/Dam? I was looking at a couple of days there during the same timeframe.

It's a beautiful drive from Tellico to Fontana Dam over the Cherohala Skyway. As far as miles, the whole skyway is only 40 miles, so with coming out of the trail system and then the miles to the dam from the skyway, you're probably looking at under 75 miles, but probably 2-3 hours of driving. It's probably the best drive south of the smokies, and I think it's prettier than the smokies myself. There may or may not be a good amount of snow by then, so beware it could take a lot longer than that, of course. There's awesome hikes and mountain biking at Fontana Village if you're into that.

Great, I was planning on doing a little biking there too. How far and how long is Tellico from Townsend? Windrock from Townsend?

Hey folks, my fiance and I will be in Wears Valley on the 24th and will be staying through the 27th-28th. I'm from Maryville way back and will be staying with family for the holidays.
We purchased our 1st 4Runner last Friday and are itching to get it on the trails - stock everything. Would these trails be something we could handle? I'm vaguely familiar with Teleco, and it sounds like a good trip.

So here's the plan for me! It looks like I'll be doing some easy stuff on Christmas day with my wife on her dirtbike, and I'll have Saturday all day too without her, so if we want we could do a little harder stuff.
Wednesday, assuming the snow has melted, we'll be going to a place called Caryville, which is pretty easy for trucks with some really fun hill climbs (lots of them).
Saturday, we can either go to Windrock or Tellico. If we've got a stock 4runner with us, which is great, we'll probably go to windrock. There's less possibility for minor damage.
