I will be coming up Pismo Friday night (10pm-12a) depending on how fast we can leave and traffic.

Anyways, do you think I will have problems with high tide?

timber,

if the tide is too high, you can drive on the path between the dunes and the RV'ers. tedious, but you can snake your way through.

Last time I was up there at Pismo, we had to cross a runoff near the entrance. I remembered that high tide floods that runoff and makes it more difficult to cross. I'm most concerned with this.

Don't worry too much. High tide is at about 5:20 at less than two feet and low tide at midnight is minus tide (very low). Shouldn't be a factor. Check here: http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/tideshow.cgi or see below.

The runoff wasn't that bad - I went on a supermarket run last year and ended up having to find ways around the high tide when we got back.

It was really crowded so there were A LOT of people that had parked too close and were getting wet. I ended up taking the higher ground reserved for the ATVs and bikes. The sand was a bit soft and I was concerned about getting stuck so I ended up going back and forth.

As long as you're 4WD I wouldn't worry about it too much. I made it in my Prerunner

what are you talking about?? going through the high tide is the best part! especially if you have some lift.. the water wont even come up to your doors.

But if you run through enough of it you will smell seaweed from your undercarriage every time you get wet

That's a souvenir. I just don't want to get stuck coming in. It will be worse if someone photograph it. I'll never hear the end of it...

nah... hard to get stuck as long as you keep your momentum and you're properly deflated. If I can do it with a Prerunner that's got mud tires then you should be able to go across just fine.

Russell:
Man, I don't know how long I spent down there with a pressure washer when we got back! Every now and then when I go to work on something I'll find an old dried up green souvenir from Pismo. I'm not worried about ever having any rust down there but the smell from the engine after driving a few miles when it rains... peeyew!!!

I'm actually good now... the first 6 months directly after were bad. I get a faint whiff every now and then.

looks like i will be able to make it again, unless there is some hostile takeover of my days off for that weekend. weekend of the 11th, right? go ahead and add me to the top of the list of attendees who won't be getting stuck.
