Offical Broken Arrow Trail Run Information

I've planned this run since I'm tired of doing trails in the desert and wanting to head back up to the mountians and tree. This run is geared more towards those of us with stock vehicles.

Run information-

Trails:

Saturday: Broken Arrow and Oak Creek Homestead (other possiblities)

Sunday (for those coming up): Broken Arrow

Run Dates: December 1 and 2, 2007
Phoenix meeting location and time: Meeting at the McDonalds at 2225 W. Deer Valley Run Rd., Phoenix. Meet up at 8:00 am and leave 8:15am.

Sedona meeting location and time: Meeting at the Sedona Chamber Visitor Center (45 Sunset Dr, Sedona, AZ) to pick up passes (recommended) 9:45 am, leave for Oak Creek Homestead trail at 10am.

Bring your lunch, drinks and dress warmly. It's supposed to be really cold .

A Red Rock Country pass is necessarliy required from what I've been but I will be getting one. It's better to safe than sorry.

If your planning on camping and willing to freeze your butt off. I did some checking and some of the campgrounds are closed for the season (according to the website). Mazanita Campground is open all year long and has openings. I've already made reservations to freeze my butt off.

I'm unable to edit the above thread but the vehicle has know been reduced to 8 Vehicles. I will have at least 2 open seats in my 4runner possible 3.

Camping will be your own choice. Might be a little chilly.

If a Trail Leader is still needed I'll do it as these are my stomping grounds. Why the limit on vehicles? We (Copper State, Expedition Portal) run these trails regularly with no problems. They are all on public land. Typically, we will meet at the Forest Circus office in Village of Oak Creek so those who wish to purchase passes may do so. The pass is only required for parking, not brief stops.

I'll dig up my info and post it up.

The limit on vehicles is done to avoid clogging the trail for the Pink Jeep Tours. Turn outs are sized for one or two vehicles, and there is limited parking at scenic points for large groups.

Without the fees the tour operators pay, this trail would not be open...so be courteous and freindly to both the drivers and guests. You are making an impression on the tourists and representing the 4x4 community to people that have probably never even seen a Jeep...

And, grin when you see'm! The tourist are paying $75.00 a seat - you do it for FREE!

I'd like to try to put a run together where we start in Sedona on Saturday, camp on Forest Circus land Saturday night (at our pig hunting spot) then go to Jerome Sunday and run Smiley Rock.

Schnebly Hill Road is a seasonal road. I'm not sure if it gets closed on a date or as a reaction to weather, but either way it will probably be closed by then.

Broken Arrow....

This is me at Smiley Rock last year.....

Running boards are not recommended.....

Greasy Spoon is between Sedona and Cottonwood. Sort of where our camp area is.

I'm open to suggestions too.

I'd like to do the sat/sun thing. But, I'll be in the dunes for the long weekend before so it would kinda be a last minute decision for me to go to Sedona. I liked greasy spoon and broken arrow last time. MoGas's campin spot sounds cool. I'll hit up Frank, he'd probably want to go. So thats a possible 2 trucks.

I thought G.S. was over rated. However, it was a LOOONG day. I think the trip up House Mountain took up most of my motivation.

Okay, I updated the meeting location and time for anyone coming up from Phoenix (I'll be there).

SOAZtim, 111db and MoGas if your interested in coming please let me know. Dave are still planning on coming and are you bringing anyone with you. I trying to get a head count of everyone who is planning on coming.

I still don't have a set trail leader yet and I'm looking for one. I'm willing to do it since I'm planning the run but like I said I don't have a CB. So if anyone has two radio that I can use and a portal GPS so I can find the way to the trail head let me know.

If your running late or planning to come on Sunday(to run BA in the morning) or wanting to camp Saturday night. Send me a PM so we can arrange a meeting location.

Sweet!! Dress warmly.

If the weather will be like that Broken Arrow will still be run and I'll come up with some other opitions for someother trails if it snows on us (snow wheeling ) and camping will then be at your own choice.
