I'm curious to know who is interested in what activities..

~ Biking (either family or Mtn Biking)
~ Canoeing
~ Fishing (either on shore or offshore)
~ Golf
~ Hiking

(I assume everyone wants to do some trail driving)

If we can hire canoes, I'd like to do this.
I'd also like to do an interesting hike somewhere, where my kids 9 & 13 can participate.
A family biking tour (leisurely) would also be something we would be interested in.

Is anyone bring other "toys" or have any other ideas for extra-curricula activities that they want/intend to do?

Thx
Mark

That might work since I'll be towing my trailer and I can't go very fast on those mountain grades. I am not sure what time I am leaving yet.

Come to think of it, it's faster for you to go south and come up 395 than it is to go north through yosemite. I've done the drive to mammoth from SLO both ways. It's 2.5 hours up to San Jose, then another 6.5-7 hours to mammoth.

I think it only took me 7 hours to go south. I went up to Paso took 46 east to bakersfield, then 178 to 395.

going to try to bring the 50's for the kids to ride around. If i can find the mystery coolant leak i might bring the 4runner to do some trails. My brother just got permission to walk on his busted up knee so hiking is out. We planned to try to get to the ghost town and let the kids run around. Might let the kids do some mock fishing. (kids are only 3 &4).

Other than that just going to meet some of the interesting people i meet everyday on the board, and to scope out your rigs to get some good ideas on what works.

What is everyone doing for the pot luck on Sat?

Was thinking of bringing marinated tri tip. any takers?

I used to work at June Mtn. so I have driven the 395 way many times. MSN maps has from my location to June through Yosemite as a little over 6 hrs and 317 miles. I just take highway 41 the whole way, plus how many chances do you get to drive over Tioga Pass. I kind of thought that if there were some of us passing through Yosemite we could meet somewhere in the valley and caravan from there.

I may take 395 home because it is all downhill that way. Also, I know some shortcuts through farm country. From Tehachapi heading west on 58 you take 223 south through Arvin, then you take Old River Road to cut over to 166 and take that all the way to Santa Maria and the 101 and then to SLO from there.

Reggie, I was wondering where you got the cost of $34.61. That is less than a tank of gas. Thanks, for the help though it is always cool to see the different ways there are to get places. Sometimes I will take a new way just because.

Reggie,

Good thoughts and glad to see you and SLO have some great advice re getting there.

Re pot luck, tri tip sounds awesome! Good thought too on getting a pot luck list together. Lance: can we start a section or subsection on the website re potluck whose-bringing-what list? alternatively, we can just start the list in the first post in this thread as well.

nothing fancy,it runs on my laptop. I use to have my old job buy me the current version of Microsoft streets and trips every year or so. The 05 started GPS support, and i went and got the 06 earlier for the voice promps. You can use any usb gps sensor is my understanding.

It works pretty good for me, got me unlossed numerous times. I also use it to find the 4wheel sport utility Geo stash locations. It does topo maps too.

I should have the 05 disk around here somewhere, i am not using it since i jumped to 06, if you want i can dig it up and give it to you @ the campground.

Ok, good deal. You'll give your new tranny cooler a workout. There's a really steep hill on 120 where I usually have to stop and let my tranny cool down.

Sounds good. Do you come into Yosemite on 120? I just realized that you don't have to go into the actual valley. I will be coming on 41, so I have to go through the valley. It might be easier to meet up where you turn onto Tioga Rd. (120). I guess that just depends on what time each of us is leaving. Even if we don't meet up, we could moniter a certain channel in case we run into each other on the road.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, that you were going to come up the south way. I'll be doing hwy 120 the whole way. Doesn't sound like we're going to be able to meet up, but I'll keep the CB on. I'll use channel 4.

MS streets & trips can use any gps that understands the NMEA protocol (most GPS units now do, with the exception of a few garmin i believe). I use that too in my carputer. I've got some topo software too for the trails.

one week away guys! I can't wait. When you get a chance, can you please check the first page/first post and make sure your campsite info is correct? if you are not going anymore, please let me know so I can update the info.

I've also started a section for the pot luck in the first post so post away so I can update the info accordingly!

Potluck - Expat: Stuffed Peppers with turkey meat, vegetables, spices. Hot dogs for kids. Coleslaw and potato salad for all.

We need a head count of adults and children to buy for the potluck. I'm guessing about 20 adults and 4-6 kids?

Mark, I'll update the headcount on the first page in awhile.

Edit:
Looks like we have 24 at the moment. If anyone else is interested in going, this will be an awesome opportunity to meet many of your yotatech virtual buddies a cold one and enjoy the moment. I've done a few of these and it always gets better and better with more people attending.

Ya guys are a great bunch... makin me tear

One spot is available so if you haven't picked out a camp spot, now is your opportunity... pm Bob! (see above post).
