Ok another last minute camping trip sat. through monday. Feather River is between Oroville and Quincy along Hwy 70 east of chico. not too much wheelin this time (i am going with a heep who is scared of getting it hurt
) but probably some forest service road exploration. but mostly enjoying the first weekend of spring break, camping, food, booze
let me know if anyone wants to come up and join us, and i will give you directions / gps coords.

this is where i believe the trail head is. i am going off memeory but i think its looks right. all you will see from Hwy 70 is a dirt parking lot and a powerline metal tower. the tail starts behind the tower on the left, to the right is nothing and it is usually chained off. once you on the trail you will start to drop elevation. there are a couple Y's and you want to go left every time. (most of the time this means staying on the "main path" ) there is a water crossing and last time it took alot of rock stacking / moving and a good spotter to make it through, i am hoping that it is better this time. normally the tail is passable with 2wd. after the water crossing its about 2 or 3 turns till the camp site, you cant miss it. its big wide open flat area. on maps including my GPS there is a road that shows up as a trail stright to the camp site.. its NOT there, it is sheer clifts. yes it will get you there but i wouldnt want to do it.
heres an overview of where the trail head is in realtion to chico and oroville. it was hard to keep track of the trail head but its close, gives you a general idea of wehre it is.
Oroville is the best / last place to fill up. i do plan on doing some limited off roading so full tanks is a good idea. if you guys want we can plan on meeting in oroville. our plan is to leave stockton at noonish. with a side detour to yuba city to pick up some gear, putting us up there by 3:30 - 4. we could meet in oroville ay about 3 or so.

So I called Plumas Nat'l Forest service, and was told that firearms are allowed but there are some restrictions. no shooting trees, or animals w/ out a license and permit, no shooting within 200 feet of campgrounds or residences. She also tod me that there are no open campgrounds in the feather river basin right now, there may be some in Beckwourth open but she said those would be under a foot of snow. brrrr.

The place chris is planning on camping at is not a campground and it's not managed by Nat'l Forest. It's railroad property. Good to know that you guys can shoot when you're off in the nat'l forest!

Well I survived my first trip into Feather Canyon. Very nice place to check out. There were 3 Runners and we all camped last nite. It was entertaining to watch Derrick take his girlfriends bone stock 3rd Gen through the creek crossing. We woke up with fresh snow and it was still coming down when I left this morning. Hopefully the others got out of there alright... Chris can you post the pics you took.... thanks again for showing me that place and helping me find my keys...

alot. got down to the crossing and first try, 2wd. we got a bone stock 2001 4runner across with no "bad clunks" much better then last time, no 2.5 hrs of rock moving / stacking by flashlight in the rain this time.
