Needed: 4x4 Volunteers for DARPA race!
Have you heard of DARPA? It's a 10-hour race on March 13, 2004 from LA to Las Vegas using custom-built off road vehicles that are autonomous- no drivers! The course track will not be known until the day of the race- and neither will the start and end points. Qualifying time has passed and the 25 teams have been selected to participate.
I am participating in a team that will be doing a lot of scouting prior to the race and is in need of 4x4s and experienced drivers to cover a very large area in the Mojave. Right now we're scheduled for the last two weekends of January, and possibly some time in March before the race.
This is strictly volunteer! There is no compensation of gas, time, food, or aything else. What you get out of it is an excuse to go wheeling in the desert, meeting some new people, and get to be part of the inner workings of a DARPA team.

It's all about driving off road.
We're doing some proof-of-concept runs where we want to see what it takes to run certain roads and we need experienced drivers who feel comfortable going high speed down desert roads, and probably some technical driving as well.
We are still looking for drivers mostly for this weekend (Jan 24,25) and next weekend.

Sounds like a lot of fun for me, i would love to help out, this is kinda late to post but i could make it tomorrow if you still need someone, I have a 90 runner with a small lift, CB, GPS, And a digital camera if you need pictures of area's or whatever, let me know!
