Woot were getting quite a group of locals going here..

Who here would be up for a camping/wheeling expedition if I plane it for late summer for St Joe Park south of St Louis?

I would be up for exploring the Richmond roads on Sat. Do you where they are at for sure? Otherwise, let's hit Raytown Rd. Prefer the morning (meet at 9 or 10)but afternoon would work if it's better for you.

kctopher

Keep us updated on the summer plans. Sounds like fun.

I'll try to make the Tuttle trip but we'll see. Are there any places to wheel south of KC that you have found? I'm in Olathe

Ricnkc,

Richmond doesn't look horribly far from here, although I couldn't find where Lawson was exactly. Let's just plan on heading out there on Sat. May 10. Does morning work for you? Meet at an exit off of I-35 or somewhere else at around 9? Let me know.

Anybody else want to go?

Scott,
sounds good to me, ill see if i can get some peps to go with us, let me know where you want to meet, or how about meeting at the Ameristar Casino on Hwy 210, at 9 am ? i think taking 210 Hwy to Richmond would be easier, but im open for suggestions.

Details.. Well...

Trails
Off-Road Trails
The off-road vehicle (ORV) riding area is approximately 2,000 acres. It has been set aside for motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), dune buggies and four-wheel drive vehicles. There are about 800 acres of “sand-flats,” a sand-like substance of crushed limestone, which is a lead-mining remnant. The remainder of the area is wooded hillsides that are steep in some areas.

The ORV staging area is located north of the park office and has three small shelters, vault toilets, water, a change house, picnic tables and barbecue grills. Pim Lake and beach are adjacent to this area.

A $3 daily fee is required for each off road vehicle. The off-road riding area is open during the following times:

7 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily from October through March and
7 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily from April through September.

I have never been out there, I have heard it has EVERY facit of the 4-Wheeling spectrum.. Only downfall its quite a drive some you Kansans..

Last time I went camping was at Blue&Grey park, and last time I checked they dont allow off-roading, would be nice to plan a trip that has both..

St. Joe State park

If you don't live really near this ORV area I really don't recommend going, it's not all that exciting. I thought it might be interesting so I went about a year ago when in STL on business. There are some interesting climbs and such through the woods , but that is restricted to atvs only, 4X4's are only allowed on the 800 acres of sand flats which are really flat. Unless you really go out of your way you don't even need four wheel drive since a lot of the sand is wet and hard packed. I heard there were some mud pits out there to play in, but since I'm not into mudding anymore I passed on them. There's a user on 4X4 wire named Poboy who I've seen post a lot about going out there, so you could probably search over there and find some pics of his trips.

Haha...St. Joe. Check out my website for a few of my trips there. You basically have to create obstacles. Its "just something to do" on a weekend. Definitely not something to make a trip out of. I will never return there unless I have an ATV or dirtbike. The place is a giant sand box.

It is also the place that resulted in me have to get a new engine I will never be returning...bad vibes. Unless you live nearby, its an absolute waste of time.

If you guys have a place in KC-MO or nearby, Im game. How far is this Turtle place from there? Im coming from St. Louis. I cant make the May 17th weekend (graduation), but afterwards...

MO is pretty empty. There is one other place that I havent been to: http://www.jdorv.com/directions.htm Its in Joplin, MO...closer to you guys than me. But I know nothing about it. I usually go over to http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/main.htm. Its awesome for all trucks...stock trails, medium trials, hardcore trails. If you have DSL or Cable, DL my latest trip with a couple of stockers...well close enough to stock and open diffs:

Just got back from the KC4WDA meeting and they announced GREAT news

They have aquired a very large chuck of land south of Kansas City (near Ft. Scott) and will be opening up an off-road park. It won't be ready to wheel for a couple of months. There is still alot of work that needs to be done including marking trails and having porta potties delivered.

Keep visiting www.kc4wda.com for more details as they become available.

Here is the link to the "parks" site which is still under construction.

Oh yeah one more thing, I was the only 4Runner in the parking lot at the meeting. It sure would be nice to see a few others

Ranski

i have tried to contact the kc4wda before, when i first got my Runner, they never would reply, to calls, or e-mails, so i gave up then i tried on the net via yahoo groups, well lets just say that one guy was very rude, unlike yotatech, where i felt very welcome from day one. and i know of atleast one other guy that wanted to talk to them about joining, he also got no replies, so he gave up on them, he even thought we should start our own club for the state of Mo. and Ks. my thought was seems like a lot of work, but id like to meet other wheelers in the area even if its once a month. i dont know where i was going with this, im tired, lol.
