Mikey(WifesaysImadumass) and I are most likely heading out Fri afternoon/eve so anyone one who wants to meet up Fri night let us know. Mosly we'll just find a camping spot and buzz around on a night run or two.

ok it's official i am the proud owner of a 2004 dodge cummins deisel 4x4 quad cab truck. can you say "tow rig"! i'am keeping my 85 runner and it now has the official status of "trail rig". i also found out my father will be giving me his tamdem axle trailer (his backhoe is too big for it) so the runner will soon be pampered with trips to the desert. Now before you guys start mumbling "sell out" under your breath, keep in mind i have three kids two large dogs and a wife who does not understand the meaning of the words "pack light"! we love to do baja trips and also want to do some road trips across the beautiful U.S.of A. i will post pics later when it's not dark!

Does anyone know how deep...

the 2nd water crossing is at Coyote Canyon? Also, rain is expected this weekend. My limit (brand new truck) will be about 24". Deeper than that and I will sit out.

Thx, Jim

If you sit out at this point you will have stopped before you've even seen 90% of the trail.
I don't remember ever measuring the depth, but last time we had some stock trucks roll through. I really dont think it could be 24" deep even w/rain, it has a good runout. IIRC there was a toyota p/u that was pretty stock w/no locker and he made it through fine. The only person who got stuck due to clearance issues was a stock grand cherokee 4x4.We had to pull him out,he didnt even have front tow points! He had to loop it around his suspension mounts. Then once we had him on our side of the water, he had to go back the other way,he took a different line and made it safely.

Here's a pic of my truck after trying to get muddy by going thru fast. On this trip the water was very low, probably 1 ft at the deepest.

And here's the jeep at the first water crossing, the water doesnt look very deep, but he's in some ruts that have swallowed his tires.

Restrictions IMposed at Ocotillo Wells SVRA

http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/712/files/111504.pdf

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Kathy Dolinar
November 15, 2004 (760) 767-5391

Effective November 24, 2004

Restrictions Imposed at Ocotillo Wells SVRA

OCOTILLO WELLS -- Effective November 24, State Park Rangers will rigorously enforce a ban on fires and the consumption of alcoholic beverages outside of camping areas at Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, California State Park officials announced today.

In addition, officials said, Blow Sand Hill, Devil’s Slide and Shell Reef will be closed to camping.

“We are stepping up our law enforcement efforts in response to the large number of people who insist on doing the wrong thing and are coming to the Park to party, and not to ride,” said Superintendent Kathy Dolinar. She said the culprits are drinking, building large fires, and are unruly.

Not only is it illegal, but this behavior is also very disturbing to the many families and others who come to Ocotillo Wells SVRA for what it was intended and that is the pursuit of recreational opportunities, Dolinar said. “But this type of unwarranted behavior is going to end,” she promised.

Dolinar said she has the support of many off-highway vehicle user groups who are in favor of the increased efforts to curb the illegal activities.

She said a large number of State Park and local law enforcement personnel will be on duty at the Park over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend to ensure that there is law and order.

That seems to mainly be to curb the staggering crowds for Thanksgiving weekend. The only other thing that we have to worry about is the fires, if that is a ban on all fires or if its just against the drunken wannabe burningman efforts.

Yeah but since they said it wasn't just for the TG week I figured I'd post it. I've never been to Truckhaven Hills but I'm assuming there are designated camping spots in the area?

I dont think the water will be too deep. If it is we may need to go somewhere else. I really liked that trail last time, that is why I want to do it again.

Rob and Mikey--find us a good campsite for Sat night!!

I know my truck will make it. I just don't like cleaning the undercarriage. My last mud run cost me a 4 hour cleanup. If I stay on the hardpack, I usually have a 1 hour cleanup. It sounds 'Whiney' I know, but Oh Well...

I figured we will meet near the entrance to Truckhaven. you turn on North Marina drive. If you go in maybe 1 mile there are some hills to play on. I figure we will meet there at about 9:30.
