Hills & Thrills
#1
Well my afternoon began when I drove out to the lake. As I was driving down the road I see this MASSIVE hill with a little trail going up the side. So I put it in 4wd low, hit the locker and proceed through the first little mud pit to get to the hill. I first stopped in front of this massive thing wondering what in the hell am I getting myself into. I start my way up this huge hill w\o any probs until I reach the second part of it. This is the first massive hill I've ever climbed. I thought this would be a peice of cake, but when I started to hear all of my toolboxes hit the hatch on the way up I knew I was in for it..LOL!!
STEEP!
I reach the top and I discover that I just drove up the levy\dam to the lake. The trail up top was soooo narrow. So I didn't have much room to turn around. The way down was very crazy. All my tools flew forward into the rear seats. I've climbed up some pretty steep hills, ect. before but nothing like this!!!! The locker does indeed come in handy. I would have taken more pics, but I was all alone and I think I was on private property.
It might not look that steep in the picture, but let me assure you, it was steep as hell!

We have a hill like that (acutally several) here is Colorado. Its near Georgetown on the way up to Argentine pass. There is a little trail the goes straight of the mountain. The locker definately comes in handy. Especially around the big rocks.
I watch a guy in a Tahoe try it and bottom out. OUCH!
Another guy in a Suzuki turned around on top and left it out of gear on the way down. I moved my vehicle in anticipation that he was going to burn his brakes.
The view from up top is incredible. I think I'll have to go this weekend and grab some pics.

Nice pictures Data.
I know what you mean by pictures being decieving.
I have quite a few of hills, and when you see them online, they look puny.
In reality they are quite steep.
Looks like you had a lot of fun, and I'm sure the Runner was happy to get a little mud bath too.

Nice Pic's Data..
Reminds me of a story from when I was young (and Dumb!)
It was the first time I had ever attempted a very steep hillclimb in my bone stock '86 Toy 4x4 P/U. The trail started out wide enough, but so steep that the rear bumper dragged the ground at the base of the hill and got steeper the further up you went. At the 3/4 point up the hill someone had cut a small ditch across the trail (to divert runoff), and as I crossed it the front wheels started to spin, so I paniced and gunned it. Bad Idea! That caused more wheelspin and the front end slid to the left. By the time I stopped, I was almost perpendicular to the hill, and the rear bumper was so high in the air I could walk under it (I'm 6'2"). It was so close to rolling over, that if you lightly pushed up on the rear drivers side bumper, you had to grab it and pull it back down or it would go over. I spent the rest of the day getting it pointed back uphill.
Not fun! I was still shaking when I hit the sack that night
