Yeah, Baby

What a sight! LMAO!!
Those Nissan boys know how to party!
Hey Wrongway...if you 'lock up' that '85, you're gonna kill yourself! You caught some excellent air today, I must say.
Just think...in a matter of weeks, there may be a ton of snow up there...!!
My wife Trudie and I really enjoyed meeting everyone. Hope all got home safe and sound.

Great group

Mr Jim Dot Net Mr JIm

Hey Wrongway, I meant to tell you that you are a wild man. Nice job conquering those hill today. Like I said earlier, I had decided that I would not even have tried that hill if I had not seen you make it first. I thought about it and decided it was too steep and then I saw you. That is what these rigs were intended to do. Right? Well, someone had to entertain the troops. Had a blast today.

Hey Corey, get with smr4runner on his video. If I remember it correctly, he has a wider shot of Jims rig that shows all the wheels off the ground.

That is an awesome pic! Wondering if you drive that pathfinder like that on a regular basis?

Hi Jon. I have the one vid that Mike shot linked on my page now on page II.

Just spent the last 3 hours in front of the PC building 2 pages and doing a little editing.

Here is the final page.
http://www.pnw4runners.net/runs/11_9_02/11_09_2002.htm

As more pics and vids come in, I'll link them on page II.

Joey, you would have had a blast up there with us.
I did not get to drive around too much as it's kind of hard doing that and filming at the same time

Had I had my navigator with me, I would have got to play on that hill some more.

GPS Traces, hot off the presses...

The first is the run as the group did it. The second is the run and the areas that I covered after everyone bailed out. I ended up finding a fairly extensive trail system with some satisfying sections Once you get off the FS roads, the actual trails are narrow and off camber and some were narrow, off camber and a foot deep in mud, all at the same time It was a blast...

Corey, feel free to pull these down for your site, if you would like.

The Group's run...

...and MY run...

Altitude

...and for those who track such things, here are the profiles of the run.

Again, the first is the group altitude profile;

...and the second is the profile of the group run and the stuff I did solo afterward. The first peak that you see in my profile corresponds to the peak in the group profile.

Thanks for making the maps Rob.
I had my GPS on, but I did not have it set to make a track.
I should have, and then tried it with my software.

In the map of our run I see the Dalles lakes on the map.
We were up by those lakes on our September run where we cleaned up this one campsite of all its trash.

I'll have to play with my GPS later and see if saved some tracks anyways.

I bet that 72 route won't be very easy say come a few weeks from now.

At one point I was rolling along a ridge top in about six inches of snow... I think you are correct. In the next couple of weeks, it's going to get hairy up there...

WooHoo! Time to strap on the four-wheel chains and push snow with the bull bar!

Oh yes I found that some of the FS roads had spurs that connect them together, "shortcuts" if you will. The longest of them was about three miles and had me crawling through a boulder field, across a tippy off camber wash out and through what wanted to be a swamp. It brought me down from Forest Lake to the road that we all came in on, about a mile up from Corey's pit.

Some stuff I declined to do as a solo rig. Other stuff I did, but likely should not have. There's one that I declined to do that suspect I could have, but the camber was such that I couldn't see the trail and a spotter would have come in handy.

Many of the trails I found were pretty tight, either because of trees/branches or because of erosion removing much of the driveable surface. I picked up a couple of new pin stripes and I think that the prettier rigs in our group would have been shooting as us had we gone there as a group.

Remember on the way to the pit when I commented on the many side roads and asked if Corey had explored them? Some of those dead end into camp sites, others become trails, sometimes single track

There are tons of off camber trails up there on 70 & 72, if one wants to take the time to explore them.

It's just a matter of finding them.
I have gone down these tight trails in the past and have had to back out because they become imposible as they get to narrow.

Lots of these do go down into "private" campsites that are simply beautiful with creeks beside them.

Had we been up earlier before the snow hit, I bet Dale would have found the West entrance to the Naches here a lot of fun.

Tha'ts the same hill Jon wanted to try out this weekend if we had been up that way.

I just added Jim's page to page II of my report.
My website keeps going up and down, and as I write this, it is down.

To many people looking at the vids at once.
I'm going to complain to my host about this as I'm very unhappy about it.

Here is the direct link to Jim's write-up.

Here's a pic he has of Bill.

Web Hosting

Sounds like some of you need a new web host. Matt's company WTS has an inexpensive web hosting business. You can email him a brister@prodigy.net for additional information. He's running a secure linux dedicated web server.

I also have a small sideline business of website hosting. Let me know who's in need of a site.

ROFL

That looks like way too much fun! I wanna go next time. I think I'll get some armor first though.

And keep that crazy Air Nissan away from my truck! Nice trajectory Jim. Glad you weren't hurt.

Peace!

Here is my host:
http://www.featureprice.com
They were highly recommended, and one of the top hosts from what I heard.

I'm going to get to the bottom of this for sure.
I have been with them since October of 2001.
They also took care of my domain name registery for me too.

Dr Z, it was a blast. It's fun tooling around in the snow up there.
We'll be back up again before too long.
Last January several of us got stuck, but got going again.
Snow is a blast to drive in up there.
Corey
