I'll be up for a run a little later. Gas is the major motivator at this point, especially after this new price hike.

I hear ya' on the gas prices. My tow rig holds 40 gallons and it will take 3 tanks down and back, plus gas for the trekker.

Good thing my wife owes me BIG TIME...I'll be there even if they hit 5 a gallon.

All of my boats were un-covered by the wind - I have 4 - three to many !

I have friends in Slidell, LA - have not heard from them - neither has anyone else. I pray that they are ok.

Well, as much as I hate to say this, I'm going to cancel my reservation at Crawford's. I estimated that w/ gas at $2/gal and groceries, the trip would have cost me a little more than $100. now, it will be more like $150. for some of you farther away, it would be VERY expensive.

in light of the situation on the coast and the gas shortage, i'm not going to go to tellico. instead, i will be donating the $100+ that i would have spent to the relief effort that is ongoing to the people who lost everything they had. waskillywabbit has agreed to do the same, and i hope the rest of you will follow my lead. to me, it just doesn't seem like a good thing to do with some parts of the country hurting for fuel and over a million people that are now homeless.

if you get a minute, please say a prayer for the victims of the devistation.

if you would like to donate some money to help them, please do...

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f5/hurrican-disaster-relief-donations-66551/

Donations are DESPERATELY NEEDED - ANY AMOUNT - in any form.

Nonparishable food, bottled water, first aid supplies, general toiletries, clothes, food, etc... EVERYTHING as you can imagine.

Donate Items, but if you can, donate CASH since these organizations can buy and distribute them CHEAPER THAN US so therefore, your dollars will go farther.

Please list "referred by Yotatech.com" in any business or referral fields.

Please do what you can afford to help these people who need it so desperately to survive.

THANKS!

US Salvation Army Donation Page for Disaster Relief

Second Harvest Food Bank for Disaster Relief

American Red Cross Disaster Relief

I understand about the money/gas problem but if you want to donate something, try going through closets and get out the clothes and shoes, jackets, blankets or anything. Have a good spring cleaning in you house and give them to agencies that will get them down there like the Salvation Army. Most of these people have nothing but the clothes on their back. They will have to start over and this would help start them off.

For those of you in the immediate areas, we could also help the people staying in our local hotels by asking the manager for an estimate in the amout of people staying (hurricane/evacuation refugees) and take them some groceries. This would help out and i believe the people would be so greatful.

I am also out - The compant that I work for has asked for volunteer's and I immediately dropped my name in the hat. We are organizing a group to travel to NO and attempt to help the red cross and FEMA.

My employer has 8 manufacturing plants and we are attempting to get every employee to donate $10.00 each - Our parent company has agreed to match every dollar that is donated. BRUNSWICK

Mercury Marine ( a sister company ) has already donated 50 boat motors and inflateable boats to be used for the search and rescue.

My company ( Sea Ray ) has agreed to pay us our regular salary even though we will be in NO - they do make me proud !

Cancelling my reservation at Crawford - not sure when we are leaving - we are in the process of organizing the effort.

Hard to justify "playing" and spending so much extra money when some folks are left w/ nothing.

There will be other times to wheel.

oh well, house needs some work, I have a nursey to finish....I hate being responsible, but I have to and WANT to. Perhaps a bit of restraint and selflessness will go a long way.

Nope. Cancelled due to Katrina.

You interested in wheeling at Gray Rock Oct. 21-23 at the CAOS Fall for ALL? I'm going up Saturday Oct. 21 for $35. Whole weekend is $75 but that includes camping...but it is primitive. Check out their website (CAOS) for the 411.

I guess the official ride was cancelled, but Ernie and I (and possibly Brett) are still going. We're headed up there Thursday, and if Brett can go he'll be there Friday. Ernie rented a cabin and since he and Allison already had the vacation time planned and such, they weren't looking to back out of it. I'll be staying with them in the cabin. I believe there's still a bed or two available if you want to come as well, Mark. It'd be cool to have some other folks there.

Hey Andy! I'm not sure what trails we'll be doing Friday. Ernie's bringing his son along for his first trip (3 yr. old), so he's not wanting to do anything too extreme. We were talking about it earlier tonight and discussed possibly doing trail 11 to 3, doing the bypass on Guardrail and Heli-pad, though I'd like to at least give Heli-pad a try. If it were just he and I driving, I don't know that I'd feel comfortable taking us down 12 (Schoolbus), as it's awfully tippy going down and usually helps to have a few hands on the rear bumper, roof, or sliders in places. So instead of doing Schoolbus, I was thinking we could just go to 3 from 11 and take the long way back. We'd also discussed possibly doing Slickrock on Friday as well.

So... we have no real definite plans right now. The cabin we're staying in is on Trail 1. It's one of those we pass when we're heading to the trails leaving from Crawfords, apparently shortly after the pavement ends. I dunno if you were there that time, but Ernie thinks it's right there where they had to pull that older guy out one time who had driven off the side of 1 (and who didn't seem to be all there). I think the cabin is called "ATV Shack" or something like that. It'd probably be best to just meet there in the morning. I assume sometime around 9 or 10?? PM me, and I'll give you my number and Ernie's number, and we can talk about it more. I'm going to Ernie's tonight to finish getting our truck's ready, so we can discuss a meeting time/place then if'n ya wanna.

Z-Man - I still want the MV-50 compressor.

I may show up at Tellico tomorrow - never cancelled my campsite and plans to go to volunteer in Mississsippi are on hold. They don't know where they need help yet - weird ?

If we don't see each other at Tellico - I'll PM you the first of the week. At this point I'm 75% sure that Tellico is where I'll be this weekend.
