what he said!! Check out the Toyota trail Riders I went to marshall creek this weekend to flex out the springs and find where I was rubbing, drove through everything twice in 30 minutes. no mud. very dry and dusty, only put it in 4x4 when I got really twisted up and lifted a tire.... Mineral wells = good stuff

ya i was at marshall creek last wednesday with a 91 toyota pickup and a fx4...there was little mud to be found (good thing?) i spent a good deal of time down by the lake (if you go left at the T) trying to get up that one real steep hill...

i checked out their website...looks like their plans for this weekend are a wrench-a-thon and bbq...

If you are refering to the brakes, yes i can attest to that...when i get them muddy now, i use a high pressure hose 1st thing to clean all that crap out of the rotors, brakes, and steering parts...i had to take off my front left wheel and look at the pad and rotor, because it squealed like a banshee when you applied the brake in reverse...kills alignment and balance as well...i havent taken apart either brake sets...hearing about those rear shoes kind of makes me uneasy...

What ever happened to the DFW4WDC? I used to be a member '86-'90 when I was stationed in San Angelo, and all the members had Toyotas. They were all 1st gen factory pickups - 20Rs with Webers or Mikunis, so I was somewhat out of place with my all shiney '86 4Runner, but the EFI would toast them at the Amarillo drags - even with them running paddles. I wouldn't play on the obstacle course with the new family hauler/DD, so I found an '80 shortbed in Abilene to use as my bushwhacker, and I would flat tow it behind the 4Runner to events. That ended when on the way back from a play day in the Arlington area one weekend, the 4WD shifter inside the pickup engaged while cruising down 67 somewhere around Stephenville. Next thing I know, the 4Runner is shuddering something terrible, and I look in the rear view mirror just in time to see the pickup pogoing up in the air on its front driveshaft. The smouldering hunk of metal melting into the asphalt was what was left of the driveshaft and the half of the transfer case it took with it  . Burned the hell out of my hand - even with gloves on - trying to get it out of the middle of the highway.

Anyway, your post just reminded me of the good times I had with the DFW guys years ago. The '86 totalled parts truck listed in my signature is the very same beast that cruised W. Texas nearly 20 years ago.
