Denver Area Wheeling, June 6th...
I am going to be mobile starting the weekend of June 6th, that is a Friday.
I would be willing to drive a couple of hours, but south of Denver would be cool. I could also swing as far north as Fort Collins.
I was wondering if anyone had anything planned and had room for another rig, or if anyone wanted to go out but was looking for an accomplice.
Camping Friday night and wheeling Saturday would be cool. I might even be able to camp it Saturday night and head back to the hood Sunday.
PM me or shoot me an e-mail if anyone is down for some wheeling or whichever.
Peace,
Adrian

Man, it's too bad you are going when you are. I am leaving for the Denver area on Saturday for a week's vacation. We could have caravaned and everything. Have you gotten any responce to your question? I am still up in the air about where all I am going for sure. I have a friend that lives out there and will show me some of the trails.
I'd like to know anything/anywhere else to go!
I haven't forgotten your offer to do a mini wrenching session on my rig. I should be getting my SAWs either tomorrow or Thursday and hope to have them installed by Fri at the latest, My new tires are waiting and need to be on Sat am and we pull out on Sat pm. If you got the time and wanna help let me know!

Wow, you are headed out to Denver?
The one other Wisconisn person on here is cruising out to the same place.
I have to wrap exams next week, that means a lot of class this week.
I will actually be out in New Mexico all summer, but darn close to Colorado.
Where did you snag the tires and what did you get?
My truck is back home this week, so I am limited on cruising around, but I will see what I can swing.
Peace,
Adrian

I ended up going with the Bridgestone Dueler Revos in the 285/75/16. I really wanted to go with the Goodyear MTRs but I couldn't justify it with the sheer amount of Hwy driving I do. I don't think I'll be dissapointed
My Fiance is supposed to have finals next week as well, but she was given the opportunity to blow them off and just take her current grade, so we are off.
I put on my new Bilstein rear shocks last weekend...Man what a pain in the @ss. It took me a good couple hours to get those in. That is supposed to be the hardest part of the install. I may start with my Downey rear coils tonight or tomorrow, and then all I'll have to worry about will be the SAWs when they come in.
Good luck on your studying. (Man, I sure don't miss that part of college)

Adrian,
Are you specifically looking to go on the weekend of the 6th? I have a wedding to attend that weekend. But if you are talking June 6th and therafter - then I'm sure there will be plenty of trail runs that you could cruz up for.
In the meantime - if nothing materializes here for the weekend of the 6th - you could alway browse "the staging area" of http://www.colorado4x4.org/ Although, it's a majority of jeepers on that site - there always seems to be someone that's wants to do some trail runs on any given weekend.

That is the first weekend that I am going to be free to wheel, I will be in Colorado Springs, so I thought I would try to make it a weekend since I would already be a couple hours from home.
All dates afterwards I am game as well.
I will keep an eye on the site you listed as well.
Thanks.

Do you have a feeling that some other things might be going on in the area around that time?
Have you looked at other Colorado related threads to see if perhaps there might be wheeling to do around that time?

You are always welcome to join a pre existing trip Adrian. We'll make room for you.
I don't know of anything speciffically planned for that time as of yet. We'll make this the official trip for June if that's when you will be around. For a while we had the first Sunday of each month designated as Trail day. We skipped a few due to weather, other obligations, Cruise Moab, etc.
I'll plan on keeping that day open for whatever.

I'm in!
Matt-
Is Slaughterhouse getting old to you? If not, that would be a good trip. Otherwise, we could try Mosquito Pass, Webster Pass or Georgia Pass. In the I-70 side, there's Old Fall River Road and Argentine Pass.

I would be willing to have trail day more often than that if people will put up with me.
Seriously though, I did not know such a thing was a habit.
I am not real picky about where, when or who so long as the where is not too far from Raton, the when is between the 18th of May and August first and at least one of the who's is me.

I could go wheeling every day off if I have gas money and my junk is running right. I have spent several days off getting the thing set up. It's trail ready as far as i'm concerned. Let the trailrides begin!! I'll do the old familiar trails again or go hunting for un-conqured territory, its all good!!
I've been watching The Colorado site for trail reports to see what is open and what the conditions are. I was up around Mt. Baldy/ Captain Jack's two days ago. SW of home for me, behind the Broadmoor Hotel. Its pretty much snow/ice free except for the most shady spots.

I'll be up in George Town this weekend. I'm going to scout Argentine Pass after running a few errands. It's supposed to snow this weekend in the high country. If the pass is passable, a Memorial Day run might be in the makings. Any takers?
I'll also scout Fall River Road on the way back.

The way it works for me now is that my work schedule is posted Wednesday and starts Thursday. It makes it really hard to plan things in advance with that, but if I request time off a week or two in advance I have a good chance of getting it.
I'll request Memorial Day off, however, just about anyone with a 4x4 heads to the hills over MD weekend. Finding camping is nearly impossible and there is extra traffic on the trails that are open by then.

I scouted Argentine Pass today. Actually, I couldn't even get to the trail head. Kind of bummed me out. There's a really steep hill I always like to climb when I go up there.
Most of Waldorf Mine trail is snowed over. I got a little over 2 miles up the trail. I was only .5 mile from Argentine's trail head and I had to stop. Someone left their snowmobile parked in the middle of the trail. I hiked up a little ways and I could have made it, even though it was snowed over. Snowmobile owner was nowhere in sight
I estimate the trail will be passable sometime in June, providing there is no sudden snowstorm up there.

For Colorado's high roads open/closed status, this is the official link: http://www.bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm
Alan, I would recommend submitting your information on Argentine for them to update their records and they'll add it to that list.
It looks like Argentine opened on May 27 last year. That's earlier than I would have thought. I'm sure it will be a little later this year since we've had a considerable amount of more snow.

I put in for the 6th off. Did you Metro area guys get some snow Saturday? I got a little sleet but I heard things about a potentially heavy snowfall north of Castle Rock. Did it pan out?
The stuff around Old Stage/ Gold Camp roads is mostly open as far as I can tell.

We got about 6 to 8" of heavy wet snow up in Thornton. It did some major damage to all the trees - including the ones in our yard.
It's about all gone now - but I think the north central Mountains got quite abit of snow aswell.
