Another CO4RJ is in the books. This year was different from last and different from most. Because I have some personal stuff to wrap up related to it and a sincere desire to contribute to making next year better, here I am.

We had people from all over. States listed as follows:

-North Carolina
-Missouri

On the Holy Cross run, the only truck from Colorado didn't have tags. All the rest were out of state.

To the best of my knowledge, no one stayed in the group site Sunday night despite our group having it reserved. I had to pay for the minimum occunpancy of 12 people for Sunday. If you paid and need a refund, PM or e-mail me.

Thanks for organizing it. And, for that matter, thank you to all who have organized it in the past. I am sure it's a thankless job...so thank you. I always have a blast!

To me it felt good to let things flow on their own a little bit more than last year. It was cool to run Holy Cross as a large group and to do Iron Chest and Chinaman's in the same day.

As far as Sunday goes, I think that a combination of the rain, intense trails, broken trucks, and just being tired led everyone to take the day off. Which was probably a good decision for all. I know I was ready to get home.

I new place would be cool for a year or two, then we should be ready to go back and tackle the BV stuff again. I still need to cross the creek without a string on Holy Cross and tackle Hunt's line on Chinaman's. Also, by that time we should have some new folks ready for the biggest rocks and some old folks ready for the insane rocks like BV Carnage

Thank you to everyone who makes us feel welcome and for helping with my co-pilot when necessary.

 

It was my pleasure for you to ride along with me, I felt kinda special having the event organizer in my truck.

I'm just glad I was able to make it out and enjoy the ride with everyone.

 

yes, we would also like to "thankx" to everyone that put this together, and lead the runs. as already said, im sure its not an easy task, and very time consuming, although this was our first jambo, even with the rain, we had a blast, and cant for the next one..

there are some hard trails in southern colorado, and an abundance of moderate and easy ones...one of the more challenging being blanca peak, which could probably challenge SteveS's rig

**Edit**I just read through the whole pic's thread, and realized steve isn't coming next year, sorry to hear that.

 

Adrian ,my wife and I had a great time.We did pay for sun.,but no need to return it.After the jambo,we stayed in Greeley on Sun. and left Mon. we got back to Mi. at 4:00 a.m. this morning,drove for 19 hrs.The garage sale starts in 2 wks. and then we're back out there.Thanks to everyone who organized,led,fixed,advised,spotted,etc;and especially Jet for offering up his garage so Brandi and I did'nt have to roll in the dirt and rain.He'll be in Phoenix for the UROC this weekend.Ya can't miss him , he has longer hair than me.(blonde).he also is a yotahead.Again we had a blast and and enjoyed meeting everyone,even the "delinquents"(thanks for the name Steve!).

so what are the ideas for 06?

 

Anna and I were talking about potentially having next years Jam on the Denver front range somewhere. The main benefit for that would be for the out of stators. There are a lot of trails within an hour or so drive that would be new for them and offer all levels of difficulty. I.e. Spring Creek, Bill Moore\Red Elephant, Red Cone\Glacier Ridge, Twin Cone, Slaughterhouse, Jenny Creek, Carnage\Left Hand etc..

The down side is for the front range locals since we run these trails all the time and they get busy on the weekends. As we know the down side to other parts of the state are that there are quite often just a few trails near any given area (besides Buena Vista).

 

Not a bad idea, though none of these trails are going to be that hard, Red cone is just scary but not particularly difficult, and Carnage may or may not be open, the FS just had a meeting, still waiting to see the outcome...

 

How are the trails in the San Juans? I know there are plenty of scenic and some moderate but how about tougher trails??

Scott, said he had a possible place in Breckenridge for a camping spot. From there, doing Holy Cross or Wheeler shouldn't be any more of a drive than from Buena Vista.

I think it was mentioned in the other CO4RJ reports thread that there are a group of people who have modified their vehicles to the point that doing many of the trails here in Colorado is not a challenge. That's fine and good, but I don't see why CO4RJ has to only cater to them. There are still plenty of stock to moderately modified rigs out there who I bet would love a gathering in beautiful colorado on some scenic to moderately difficult trails. I think it's hard for some of the hardcore people to believe, but people do drive hundreds of miles to come to colorado for no reason but just to enjoy the scenery. So, I personally think the Moab event will/should take the place of the CO4RJ as a hardcore wheeling event. Don't get me wrong, we should still have difficult trail options (if there are some in the given area), and those who want to run them will. I just don't think that should be the only focus of the CO4RJ. I say plan the event, choose the trails, and if someone wants to drive 500 miles to come, great - if not, that's fine too. If we lose a few "hardcore" guys, that sucks cause they're fun to watch and a great group of guys but I'm sure there are some budding new Toyota enthusiasts that just got their new lift on who ready to take their place at the event.

If I am still welcome to the CO4RJ I will gladly come again. Especially if it's in a different place. I enjoy hanging out with the CO crew.

Going to BV for 3 years in a row was cool, because I could gradually do harder and harder obstacles. Now that I have done most of the obstacles that I can do I would like to wheel some other trails.

Yes, I agree with Scott and John... I think a new location would be fabulous! John and I talked alot on the was home from BV and realized that we could still do some of the traditional trails to give some a great challenge as they are not far from Breckenridge.
The trails along that front range area are amazing and so much fun. I am willing to help with the organization for next year and see if we can make it great!!!!

I think that we may end up having alot of people join us that are newer to the fourwheeling world and ready to start learning. We will also get those of us that like the more challenging stuff but also love the scenery. And most of all- there are those that come for the campfire bliss and comradery. HEE HEE
I say we go for it!

 

Hey - I'm missing out on stuff! Now that I have my 4Runner axles in the Gnewt, I can play here too! And maybe even host a big BBQ at Casa Bobzooki if you're in the front range! I'll keep in touch with Scott (Jade Runner - I work with him) in case I forget!

 

Anna, as usual Doug and I had a great time with everyone we were with this year. I would love to have next years down south somewhere just because we haven't done anything there. However we would be up for anything. If you need any help in organizing count me in. Hopefully the runner will be a little bigger and stronger and we can run a little harder trails.

I had a great time, thanks to everyone!

I drove over 800 miles to the event for both the wheeling and the scenery. I had two goals for this trip: make it to Holy Cross City and make it up Iron Chest. I did both, so I am not dissapointed in the least.

As for next year: MAKE IT A WEEK OR TWO EARLIER!!!!!!!! every year, my classes start the monday right after the event, so i cannot stay for the whole thing. this was cause enough for me to skip the event entirely in previous years, this year i went but had to skip out on half of the event.

I agree with that. The Jambo always falls the first week of school here.
