1. Make it into 2 VHS tapes recordeded at SP speed (best quality)
2. Make it into 1 VHS tape recordeded at LP speed (medium quality)
3. Make it tino 2 DVD's (best quality, easier to mail) I'm not possitive yet I could even make this affordable.

Is there anyone who wanted a tape who doesn't have a DVD player? [/B]

I like Options 2 and 3. I have storage problems for too many VHS tape

I would be down for DVDs because they are potentially a more stable format for posterity. I assume the cost of making two would be pretty steep based on the costs you mentioned previously.

As for the tape quality and one versus two, is the disparity between high and medium quality quantifiable?

In the end, I suppose this is something that I will be starting, stopping and rewinding frequently, so perhaps the stability of a DVD wins out, barring obscene cost of course.

Thanks for working on this Mike!

Today I spoke with the duplication shop I've been working with. The guy there says they don't make tapes in LP mode, so that's out, at least with this shop.

The price he had quoted me for VHS tapes was $5.50 per hour tape, throwing in another $1.50 or so for two hours. (This is at SP speed.) With three hours, I assume we're in the ballpark of $12.50. Then there's envelopes and postage to worry about. (Plus, I hoped to get reimbursed the $20 for the digital tapes I had to purchase to make the masters.)

Now, the story with DVD is this: The duplication shop says they can make the two DVD masters for $50. Steve Hunt has offered in theory to make us duplicates on his home computer. I think we could get blank DVDs for somewhere between $1 and 3 per disc. That would bring the per unit cost way down, not taking into account the initial $50 mastering expense. Packaging and postage would be easier and less costly. And, personally, I would much prefer DVD as the medium.

I wish I knew someone in Denver with a DVD burner. (I'm still waiting for the prices to drop.) I think most DVD burners only copy at a maximum speed of 4x, so making the copies will take a lot of time. (Since this is 3 hours of material, it'll require about an hour per set of 2 disks.) The duplicaton shop will do it for $20 per disk... but I know no one is going to want to spend $50 for this thing!

So that's where it stands. I will keep you abreast as things develop further.

You might want to post a vid of someone else doing it, you don't really "get it" if you don't see a non-Marlin truck do it.

I actually didn't mean the "SPANKS" chant as sarcasm, although maybe it came across that way. (Sorry.) I was just having a little fun with that... and the sound effects. I think I speak for everyone on the board when I say that you have made your truck VERY trailworthy... it does "spank." (You're just fun to tease.)

Your traversal of this obstacle was really smooth, and that IS hard to gauge without witnessing attempts by other vehicles. As you know, I didn't attempt French Creek because everyone's rear bumper dragged hard on it, and I knew my stock bumper wasn't up for the abuse. Plus, I might not have been able to pull it off without a locker, although I would have given it an attempt.

I don't think any of us don't envy your Marlin. That's not a debate as far as I know. Alhough I could see how our affirmation might be thereputic for getting over the ordeal of your Fresno stay.

Who else had a rough go at the Creek?

If you have time with the rest of life Mike, it would be cool to see another one of someone struggling. If that person happens to be me, then so be it. I honestly don't remember that one being a bugger, Whale Rock on the other hand gave it to me.

Brown- Don't ever appologize, just hit me back harder. That's the way you play the game.

Ok, make a video of Jeff crossing the creek. That will show the difference. Although a Supercharged 3.4 liter Automatic versus a little 2.7 liter 5 speed is hardly a fair match up. But I think it will be fine.

Oh yeah, you ripped that crossmember off yet or decided to "Take me up" on that 9K thing?

Yeah, I don't think anyone really struggled -- I'll have to watch the video again. I think the thing impressive about Steve was that he was able to go right up the first try without stopping. (Of course, he was hardly moving...) Jeff initially pushed his nose into the rock wall at the bottom, at which point, Steve's head swelled beyond recognition.

Just wanted to make sure you were playing, too. Like I said, it's all in the sprit of fun and friendship... and boys being boys. So get your foot on the skinny pedal and stop blocking the trail! (You're going to crack up when you see the video... how many times you say "SLOW DOWN!" when you're spotting for people. Actually, everyone else is going to crack up. )

I took it out on an easy run Saturday (a 6), and came down hard on a rock, though I couldn't see that it did any damage. I'm beginning to think I might need stiffer shocks.

You think that 4Runner for sale is really a good thing? I'd hate to plop down the money and get an on-going repair bill. Do you know this guy? Why in the world would be put together such a nice rig and not wheel with it?? That seems strange. Can you vouch that this is actually as nice as it appears?

You must be talking about Mike H? That is the sweetest 4Runner I've ever seen. Get it! I want to have it in my neighborhood. No pressure though!

Yeah, I'm thinking about it. I wish it were in town so I could take it on a test drive.

He's a show and shine guy, the only reason I think he did the swap is that he made a great deal with Kongs. I bet the SA rides too rough, I know he really liked his long travel IFS that was on there before the swap.

If you are serious, I will go out there and look at it, test drive it etc. I looked at alot of FJ-62's and if ti sucks, I'll be the frist one to tell you. If it's good buy a 1 way plane tick to Phoenix and I'll pick you up at the Airport. We can even try wheeling it out here to test it out before you leave. Zags built the 4Runner, he is one of the best.

So............................. what's that Saturn worth ???

Come on Brown. KICK YODERS ASS !!!

I won't dispute the merits of that truck, but driving 35's every day is not something that I would do even with 5.29's on the 3.0.

It does have a solid axle, it will be worth less than your other rig and it sure would make a nice companion for my rig when I come out there...

Add 37's and a crawler and you would have something that would hold the fam and have two real lockers.

And to keep it on topic,
"Yeah, good video, wish there were more."

Not a computer simulation?? I don't know if I could handle that.

Donna's talking like this could be "his" and "hers." I didn't want to ask her which one she had her eye on.

I think at this point I need to go out and look at it. It may not be as it appears. All of the FJ-62's I looked at were in "great" shape but you would be ammazed how many were POS's once I got there.
