Yes, you are correct.

However, there is a HUGE difference between going out on a trail with you and 2 other trucks who are people you know and trust and pushing the limits of your rig....

...And going out with 15-25 trucks on a trail, with people who are unsure of themselves, and their trucks, and trying to make sure everyone has a good time. Some people get impatient, the people who are uncomfortable get anxious and have a crappy time because they feel like they are holding everyone up.

Hence, in the past, groups have been split up...But that causes problems on its own...a guy with no idea how to drive can show up with a locked truck, and get into the hard trails, and Walker Evans might show up with a stock truck, but not be allowed on the hard trails. Both of those people should be in the other group, but how do you tell that from internet registration?

It is going to be difficult either way. I think that the people who are organizing this will do it whatever way works easiest for them, and that is great. They are the ones putting in the time and effort, and they deserve a big hand for that.

That being said, if i can make it, i will be happy to go run the harder trails with a group of people who want to go. I like these things because of the people and the fun times in camp. I prefer to stick with a max of 5 or 6 trucks on the trail.

I'll leave it up to HaveBlue and Ric, and if they want to split up, then cool. If not, then no worries, it will still be a good time.

I agree with you. If I make it to the 4RJ, we'll have to go on a run together

The last time we rolled past Iron Chest, there were baracades in front of the trail head. Darren and I went up Iron Chest a few years ago and they had moved all the rocks from the rock garden to the sides of the trail. But we'll definitely be checking into this one.

they moved the rocks back...
The boulders at the start of the trail were moved to the sides from late summer 2003 to late summer 2004, making it an easy trail during that period.
And as of this trail report in Oct. of 2005 - the boulders are back.

Whoops, my train of thought kind of melted together in the last post.
I meant in July 2006, we rolled by and saw barracades. But that's definitely one of the trails we'll be scouting.

Holy Cross has changed a good bit at French Creek over the past year. There used to be a big rock on the left line that stuck out of the bank. Well, it is now down in the trail. We got a stock Jeep Runi unlimited through it two springs ago but I have heard it is nasty now. On the upside, French Creek is always changing. With carefull spotting I am sure it could be done with a stocker. Now Cleavland Rock is a whole different story...

Camping at French Creek is great if you make it a overnight option. Just hanging out to watch the circus at French Creek is enough, that and you can go across the creek in the morning before anybody gets there and come back to watch the shows.

In the interest of eliminating tension and assuring everyone who ought to be there is, my daily driver and myself will not be attending this year.

I also do not expect any of my rowdy friends to be in attendance.

The rules look standard, hopefully they can be enforced during the event this year rather than from the keyboard.

Iron Chest is only bad at the start. A locker and a good driver can bang it out.

Holy Cross is really only a trail from the Creek up. The rest is gravy.

Chinamen's can be done in a stocker, I have seen it. Doing the obstacles takes a locker and a driver.

Those are the moderate trails in the area that I enjoy.

Perhaps our paths will cross this summer.

That's too bad. Some of my best memories of past CO4RJ's are of the fireside humor / debates / discussions. Maybe you and "your friends" will reconsider.

I could be offbase with this, and certainly don't quote me, but i think, for some, its just a simple matter of having outgrown the event. And not a matter of having an issue with the people or the company. The trails being run are moderate, and that is exactly the way it should be. Most of the attendees are running at the most one locker, usually stock transfer case stuff, and minimal armor. There are a number of exceptions, but those are the trucks that this event caters too.

But it really isnt fun for the guy who has a truck that can drive every trail on the list in 2wd. That is a lot of money in gas for something that isn't much challenge. Not trying to be offensive at all, but i can sympathize.

And, again, i say, that is how it should be. It is also a family event, and being young, unmarried, childless male, it doesn't really cater to fellers similar to me. Again, this is good.

Just don't like to see people feeling like its an insult that people aren't coming (and i'm not saying that is happening here at all), rather that some of the group has moved on, and we can all be freinds

In the past, it has been a mostly young singles/couple thing.

Brown has been the big kid bringer and that was 3. One year when we had over 50 participants, only 3 were kids.

The reality is purely that I will not be attending this event, there is nothing to say about my truck or my behavior.

There was a bunch of drama on another run, perhaps this is YT only.

In the past, it has been Toyota only, with exceptions. Mostly late model 4Runners, with exceptions.

No worries Isaac.

Our plan is to roll into BV around noon on Friday, eat lunch, roll over to the camp site around 1:00 (check-in time), unload, then head up Pomeroy or something else.
So, there will be an "unofficial" run on Friday for those who are interested. Otherwise, the official runs will be Saturday and Sunday.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 07:48 AM.
