What's funny is that I can't decide if I'm more excited to go back to the Albuquerque Hooters and TD's south or to Colorado?

Great Wheeling -vs- Great Women (Which are all from Phoenix by the way)

so 37's dual lockers and cases is cool too? Of course don't forget that the most race car driven looking m.f. will be behind the wheel.

p.s. Schaefer is my girlfriend - pitchers are never gay.

If Wheeler is crowded, there will be a one locker requirement.

If not, open diffs and some experience will be important. People take dualies up there.

Jeff should be on or getting to Iron Chest right now. I am going to try preview time when my folks are here.

If everyone who has e-mailed me before the page was up could re-mail, that would be great. Not seeing as many people as I thought so we may have to juggle trails.

We could have a second Wheeler run on Sunday. Because it looks like Holy Cross and Iron Chest are Fri and Sat. So if I want to do Wheeler it will have to be Sunday.

I still think we can squeeze Chinaman's in after the run on Fri or Sat.

I did Iron Chest Mine on Saturday with my Isuzu buddies. MAN, that was fantastic! It's slightly more difficult and more fun than it was 2 years ago before the county or state removed and replaced all of the rock garden to get some large equipment up to the abandoned mine. The crummy off-camber section is flat now too. I had a blast! Slammed my hefty skidplates harder than any other trail I've done, though, including the old version of Iron Chest. I was the only one with puny 33's and IFS. No one in our group had any breakage. The trail is somewhat comparable to AZ's Upper Woodpecker, but with 1/4 to 1/2 mile of continuous rock garden. (It's the exact same distance as before the trail rebuild).

Thanks to the 2nd edition of the Charles Well's book, we finally found Grizzly Lake, so we ran that the same day. The only tough spot is the first obstacle, which actually gave me more problems than anything on Iron Chest. Just had to try several lines and add a few rocks to fix the breakover angle deficiency. The rest of the trail was moderate. It had a variety of trail sections such as scattered rocks, some of the trail winding through trees, across open scree fields, rocky climbs, etc. Beautiful lake at the end.

I'll try to add some pics soon.

So it looks like it would be a good idea to plan on one additional trail after Iron Chest? Jeff, how long did it take on the trail, how many trucks etc.?

Cool. I'll do Iron Chest and Holy Cross this year for sure.

I'll bet we can fit Chinaman in at night or after a run. Although I do want to try Hunt's stupid line on whale rock and I think that would be better with some daylight.

We had 5 trucks, all well equiped. No breakage. Minimal stopping or spotting. We had a long lunch at least an hour long. The total time from the campground was 6.5 to 7 hours for the 2 trails (Iron Chest and Grizzly). I think that we should run it similarly that Saturday with Iron Chest first, and then depending on time the same group can do Grizzly. It depends on a lot of things with the group though. It is possible for people to head back to camp after one trail without doing the other.

Not Warn, Superior Evolution Series and CTM's. My break over is pretty darn good, all of the stock crossmembers in the center are gone.

I think it will be fine. I'll also have alot bigger tires than you did. The real 35's were considerably taller than your Nittos, Hughes rolled one out to his truck when he was here. They are also bigger than my 315's. By 3/4" or so.

If you have 20 year old Jeep stockers, I would bring a spare. The idea was to build it strong so nothing will ever break and I don't have to carry any junk around.

Now the rear alxes are just plain silly. Those will never break or even bend.

Glad you pre-ran those trails Jeff. As I was trying to say months ago, Iron Chest will be a real bruiser on the undercarriage, so 3rd gens on 33's with even moderate armor beware. I would personally worry about my gas tank and lower control arms. I know Jeff's are all modified.

I really want to run Grizzly again. But, it sounds like that first obstacle is the same if not harder. I had to winch it last fall. That's unfortunate because I wanted to lead a moderate group up there on Sat. Even just an hour of fishing would yield some nice size brookies. I know this is a wheeling event, but I thought some of the moderate people would really like this option. We could hit Baldwin Lakes in the afternoon.

Here are my pics of last fall. Yes, I also got hung up going down the grizzly obstacle.

no dogs us this year- the grand parents are watching the whole crew, now we can really concentrate on burning things.
