CO4RJ 2003 Dates Set

I was just reading this thread over on 4x4wire about this years event. I couldn't find any threads about it over here so I thought I'd make a post. Its set for August 13-17 for the Chalk Creek Campgrounds, just south of Buena Vista, CO.

I am very interested in making the drive up from NM, its a nice straight shot up through Alamosa for me. Just trying to get the word out. Who's in?

Mods, can we make this a sticky, please?

Cheers,

Its now stuck. However, I strongly reccomend that everyone who wants to go reply on the ODW thread linked above. Its really an ODW (outdoor wire/ 4x4wire) event.

The main organizer is Jeff the Marmot and I haven't yet seen him post over here on YT. Out of respect for his efforts to organize, please post over there if you plan to attend.

Jeff has registered over here and got the "jeff the marmot" name. I told him if he did not I would have grabbed it.

The gang from Arizona will be back. Myself, Mark G. and Mike N. So it looks like I'm not going to make it to Prismo.

I need to go bond with my Colorado buddies and alot of them have been down here as well.

Yeah, I'm in.

Now if I can get my crap together and finish some skids, get my rig re-geared, and get my head straight, I may just have a bunch of fun too...

I didn't even know this was on. Thanks Mike for letting me know about this event. I just asked Carole about going and she said I could go. However, she stated she's not sure if she will be able to make it. At any rate, where can I get more informtion as to what the exact dates are????

Here at the end:

I talked to Jeff the Marmot on the phone and told him we need to get you up there as well. I'm glad you can make it. This one will be bigger than AZRocks and pretty much all 3rd Gen 4Runners.

It is a bummer. I stopped by Desert Craptastic Booty Rat to see Joe, but he wasn't there. I didn't take the time to even find out what he's doing there, that place gives me the creeps.

I guess it's time to learn how to set up diff's, 'eh?

Cool

I'm really looking forward to it!
I have plans to make a transmission skid plate. I'm thinking something along the same lines as the transfer case plate. I have always been concerned about a rock sliding up into the transmission oil pan. :pat:

It appears that I may be following Loosehead up there, or possible heading up there after work. It seems to be about a 5 hour drive. Should be able to make it after work. It everything works out well.

I e-mailed Joe at home but I know he was at Jeep Easter Weekend in Moab. So you may want so swing back by at the end of this week.

Yep the AZ Virtual Jeep slites shows he was in Moab last week and weekend.

I hear we're looking at 14 hours from Phoenix. :pat:

Actually I told the Marmot that he had better watch out. You can wheel that Runner! I really did. I bet he's all nervous now. He's a really nice guy, real quite and shy. He thinks I'm funny, we'll have a great time up there.

I think my cralwer will destroy all of you anyway.

I have seen Jeff's page and seen the crazy stuff he has done. However, is the icon a statement of your current mindset when you made the above statement?

Steve-

Its not that bad a drive. I'm thinking its right at 4 hours. I know it takes just over two hours to get to Alamosa, and from there, its right at 100 miles to Buena Vista through the 'gun barrel'. I drove this way last year to go up to Aspen for a rugby tourney, and its a really nice drive...

My plans aren't made yet, still have to work out the details with the wife. I am definately up for caravanning up there for the drive though. Maybe we can get a couple more New Mexicans interested, ALBPM? Albuquerque Jim? Anyone? Bueller?

Jayson,

who has been driving around Los Alamos with the white Toyota truck with the tube frame in the bed? I put a Wild Yoats card on his window this morning. He seems to have a pretty beefy setup on his rig. If you are not familiar with the setup, take a cruise down Canyon road, just before the grocery store, look to your left and the rig is paked in the apartment complex next to Canyon road.

I am hearing You Loosehead! I would love to go. I haven't gone to any events like this before.

Can I take my undermodified 3rd gen in the midst of the likes of Jeff "the Marmot", Steve "Sonoran Steel" Schaefer & "Skid Plate" SteveO? I have read so much about you guys, you seem like movie stars to me. (I mean no disrespect, all of you rigs are awesome)

Feeling intimidated in Albuquerque.....LOL

Maybe we could start a mod envy support group.

Absolutely. We'd love to have you come up. There will be other stock 4Runners there to be sure. At this point, and I'm sure you've read it, but we are planning on splitting the group so that those who aren't modified can run easier trails and those who are modified, for more difficult ones.

The whole point is to get a group of 4Runners together (which by the way, was one of the most awsome sights I have ever seen at last year's gathering), meet some folks from the boards, and see some scenery, not necessarily to run the tougest trails around.

Come on up!

We'll miss you Scott.

Does Rising Sun have anything cooking for May? I haven't seen you since the ice races.

You bet! Actually, at the 1st CO4RJ (in 2001) I think there were almost as many stock rigs as modified at the event. Also, this years event is in the same area (buena Vista) as the 1st CO4RJ. I imagine there is a chance we will be running some of the same trails. Ziad (reapur on ODW) still has quite a few picture albums up of that 1st years event in Buena Vista.

Check it out here:
http://www.reapur.com/car/co4rj/index.htm

Oh, and Jim, you've got 3 months to put some mods on that Runner of yours!

It seems like every year the CO4RJ makes me do another mod - I wonder what it will be this year...
