CO - Jan 2 - ice racing fun day at Georgetown
It doesn't look like anyone else has announced this, so I will. Sorry for the very late notice. This is open to all 4 wheel drives. The "Our Gang 4 Wheelers" Ice Races at Georgetown will have a "fun day" on Friday Jan. 2 from about 10am until sunset. Just show up anytime before 3pm. It's located about 30-40 minutes west of Denver on I-70. This is basically a practice day where you can do as many races as you want. It costs $5 per driver for the day. Bring cash. If you have no studs on your tires (bare rubber) then you'll be able to race. There will also be a separate studded tire class if you bring a helmet.
If you plan to race on any weekend the rest of this season, you'll also need to do a "tech-in" which is a safety check of your vehicle. It costs another $5. They'll do only a basic check if you're just doing practice runs that one day.
You're still not allowed to just go anywhere on the lake - you must be idle speed anywhere other than on the race course and remain on the designated area of the lake. All the expected rules apply - no alcohol, no bottles, don't spill anything on the lake, seat belts must be worn, etc. Typically on the fun days, if you knock over a cone, you have to go put it back up since there are very few workers.
For more details go to http://www.iceracing.homestead.com/
The ice is said to be in "very good condition". It'll be cold up there, so dress very warm.
I'm planning to be there. Who else?

Ice racing is a blast;I competed a couple of times with my Eclipse and did surprisingly well against some better prepped Subarus and a couple of Audis.
I never really gave it a thought about trying it in my Runner, might have to go out and give it a go.
