Chinamans Gulch this Sunday

I'm leading a run with the Rising Sun Club this Sunday if anyone is interested. The double whammy rock has my name written all over it.

Meeting Place: Sunday, Sept. 14th.

Gunsmoke Truck Stop at Johnson Village - HWY285

Leave at 9:30am. Meet at 9:00am

Difficult. - 33's and a locker suggested to drive this trail comfortably. Sliders recommended\required for long wheelbase rigs.

Don't take the rock humping line on the first optional obstacle.

If it hails, forget the last obstacle and just turn around.

If it does not, slice across and away from the tree.

I still think that the sliders recomended thing is somewhat curious. At the Jambo, pretty much everyone with them used them and people without them took damage.

Wish I could be there. Perhaps next year...

At the Jambo, I made sliders "highly recommended but not required" on that trail because I've helped a Jeep Cherokee at stock height get through that trail without sliders, so I know it can be done. The driver was a girl, too. That was before the new section of trail existed.

If you have a large group, it greatly speeds things up to just require sliders so you don't need to constantly spot someone with no sliders through the trail.

BTW, sorry, I'll be busy this Sunday.

I think Adrian means "Yoder Rock."

Adrian, word is the BLM has officially sanctioned the bypass.

However, that hill after it is really a challenge in rain/hail/snow. (Does anyone remember if there is a tow point on top? ...since Matt isn't going to be there to blaze the way.)

Yeah, I recommend, if you don't have sliders, spare yourself the body damage and wait until you have some to do this trail.

There wasn't at the time of the Jambo. But a week or two after that they officially added a winch anchor or two and the bypass - sanctioned by the BLM.

Jeff, thanks for the answer, but I meant the big hill just a hundred yards or so past that -- the one with the big rock on the driver's side that threatens to take out a door or window. When we did it at the Jamboree, Matt had somehow barreled up it, so he pulled Steve Hunt up, Steve pulled Martin up, Martin pulled me up, etc.

Oh - that's called Shep's Demise. Here's a picture of Shep. No, there's never been an anchor there.

That rock almost ate my window. Darn that Shep!

There is a line to the right, away from the rock, but it is off camber and some people got hung up. I think the line to the left is correct, but if you slide off, back and retry, don't just try to run it. I almost had a long, windy drive home.

Great run. I'll post pictures later. Kerry and his Runner did very well. I wussed out of the double whammy obstacle. Mainly because of the huge rock 15 feet after that, that had been drug upward creating another nasty rock to drag across.

I hit my rear diff. to the extent that the drain plug twisted sideways. I think it happened near the top of Twin Cone. I should have inspected it sooner. I noticed a pool of fluid on my garage floor tonight. Fortunately it just started leaking and I was able to file the threads around to get the drain plug back on until I can buy a new one tomorrow.

I'm a lucky man.

Was it haling? Did you have people yelling at you to take lines you did not want to? Who do you think pulled that rock up? Martin and his winch. We all went around it. Sucked eh. Try Hail. Sucks even more.

Every one made it past the Shep thing. We had to, we were warriors by that point and had made a Survivor TV show like bond by then.

The lockerless wonder made it in the HAIL?

What's up with that ???

If you take the "new" obstical out, Martinez is harder for sure. You did great on that, your still a stud in my book.

You wheeled the most kick ass trail.

Glad to see you gave ChinaFairy a go. Did you do the Yoder rock thing ???

When are the pics of the bellypan coming?

They really do the trick, especially when you have extra stuff to protect down there.

Did Yoder do Yoder's rock? We are all wondering, especially since you likely had good spotting.

Martinez is still where it's at.

Nice pic. You're supposed to USE the sliders. Here's a pic from that spot.
