Cherry and Salt Creek - Frazier Park

Hi all,
With only about 3 hours to get there and wheel and return we opted for a quick run in the Frazier Park area this afternoon.
We were just West of Lake of the Woods and North of Pinon Pines. There are a number of 4X4 trails in the area, and we went driving up Tecuya Mountain Road (9N22) to Cherry Creek Road and Salt Creek Road, marked as Trails 113 and 112. These are some fun and kind of steep trails through dense woods and mossy, green ground (at least at this time of the year). Not a ton of rocks, but a few pretty good ruts. They are both dead ends but because they are down all the way out and up all the way back it seemed like a pair of loops. Definitely a nice change of pace over the Moonscape of Ocotillo Wells portion of Anza Borrego (it was 47 degrees at 5:30pm).
It was also wonderful place to try out the full OME suspension.
NICE!!

Check the pics below, they do not do justice to the degree of climbing and dropping.

SkyRat, Nice photos. Did you need lockers for those trails, or are open diffs OK? I'm looking to go there with my 4Runner eventually, maybe in a week or two, being that I'm getting bored of the Gorman off road area. Havent wheeled Frazier in the 4Runner yet. Greg

I have no lockers, and the trails were pretty darn easy, yet still lots of fun. There might be a high center or two without a lift, but since there are not many rocks, you might be able to do it with running boards. Also, the ground was damp in most areas and traction was like flypaper.

BTW Greg, you are right near me. We should get to gether for a run sometime soon. I am in Granada Hills, and looks like you are in Winnetka. Have you been up to Camino Cielo (Santa Barbara)? That would be another good place to wheel a pretty stock 4Runner.

Well, even if it wasn't some insane offroading trail it sure does look beautiful there. That more than makes up for lack of terrain in my book any day.

Living in concrete jungles you kind of forget what things really look like "out there". Nice pics!

Ya gotta love flypaper traction!!.........I've not been to Camino Cielo, but definitely am up for it. Mostly I've wheeled around Ocotillo Wells in my baja bug, but lately, I'm getting into wheeling my 4Runner. Mine's stock, open diffs, 31" tires, but it does fine for the off roading that I do.... I am up for a day trip, maybe on an upcoming Saturday?? Thanks for asking. Greg

Do you ever have weekdays off? Right now I am moving into the slow time of the year for my work. Saturdays sometimes are tough, but I will let you know.

I actually prefer weekdays, but right now is bad for a weekday run. Keep in touch and eventually we'll hook up. I had considered going out on April 10, but I'll know better, closer to that time. Greg
