badlands questions

Well me and a buddy are planning a trip to go to the badlands over spring break. I have a 93 22re 4x4 with 33's bfg mud terrains, and he has a 94 22re 4x4, with 31's all terrains. We have to make a 240 mile trip to get there and about a 4 hour drive. What we are worried abut is breaking something there and not being able to get back home. this is a daily driver and was wondering if any one could fill us in on if we should be worried or not. We plan on taking it easy so we dont break anything.

I would have guessed Badlands national park. Though I quickly realized that no 4wheeling would happen at a national park.

now I'm curious where this "badlands" is located.

I am pretty sure that he is talking about Badlands Indiana. And there are levels of difficulty there so I'd say keep it easy if you are afraid of breaking anything. But take some cash with you because if you do break something there they have a shop where you can fix it.

My cousin and I have been meaning to get out there but either his TJ is broken/being upgraded or my rig is broken/being upgraded.

From friends I've talked to and things I've seen it's a fun place with stock friendly to wild trails.
Play it safe, use your noodle and you should have no problems.

There are multiple levels of trails. Most of the hard trails have bypasses and I believe they have a shop on site if something catastrophic happens. If its just you 2, I suggest piggy backing with another group. Do you guys have recovery gear?

If the distance is what you are worried about, check out The Cliffs, http://www.thecliffsinsaneterrain.com/. The park is smaller than the Badlands and the trails are generally tighter.

All I have for recovery gear is pretty much just a 25 foot toe strap. Is there any other basic recovery gear I should take?

At least 1 tow strap, front and rear tow points on each truck, a CB radio for comminucation and emergency (I've never gotten cell phone reception there), spare tire, tire plug kit, first aid kit, tools, fire extinguisher.

When are you guys planning on going? I know another user out of Bloomington (i think) was thinking about planning a trip as well.

You can avoid the bad stuff at the badlands (unlike the cliffs). Once I make an antiwrap bar and a new cross member, Ill be hitting the badlands and cliffs all summer. If you guys want to hook up with us thats cool. We have everything from a fj55 linked on 37's and my sased runner on 36's, to stockers running with us.

BADLANDS rules!
whats up john!

badlands is good to go. fun place and fun holes. just dont go exploring your own path when the runner (4rnr) w/ 36's cant go one way and you decide to try to go the other way without checking the level of the hole. pics in my sig!

anyhow, bring some tools and if you can a spare battery in case you fry your alt!
