Okay, it seems that we have a few people interested in doing the Hassayampa. Lets figure out who's all going and what their availability is. I, for one have to check my scedule for the next week or two. I've done this trail with my dad in his stock FJ80 and it was very fun and easy enough that a stock 4x4 would do just fine.

 

Don't mean to horn in on you AZ guys planning thread, but I thought I'd pass along a local boys website with pictures and brief trip reports from some of the trails you're considering. After visiting his site, I have Saguaro daydreams for hours.....

Checked my schedule. 12 to 6 on sunday

Lets figure out a date that would work well for everyone. If its in a months time and we can get a decent turnout thats fine with me. If we can get a group together early in the AM on Sunday I would be down but the chances of that happening on such short notice is probably slim to none.

Further suggestions as far as trails and times are welcome too. I am just trying to get something together that works for everyone.

I would like to check out that hassayampa canyon area, there are some cool looking roads off the vulture mine road near wickenburg, nothing technical, but good photo ops anyway.
El Camino del diablo might be a little hot for another couple weeks, and it might be best as an overnighter.
Crown king is a possibility, but slow going for stock trucks like mine.
I would like to check out martinez cabins, but I have no idea about the difficulty, rumor has it there is some pretty tough stuff up there

 

You need a permit for El Camino del diablo. They are free, but you have to go through the motions.

With all the Border Patrol activity down there, your going to get asked for your permits.

 

Yeah, you have to get a permit, call when you enter etc... If I remember correctly they don't like people shooting guns in the area. There is a large laundry list of no-no's that would be prudent to follow. It is highly advisable to make sure every passenger and every vehicle is law enforcement compatible, that is NOTHING illegal in the car, (leave the chinese knock-off oakleys at home)

It is an exciting area to travel though, being it is one of the more dangerous parts of the U.S. with all the drug trafficing, human trafficing etc.. I believe the state department has issued travel warnings for the area, as well as the gov. declaring a state of emergency, If this sort of stuff does not dissuade, then it is a great drive
