3rd Annual Squaw Ridge/Pardoes Trail: August 4-5, 2012

Yeah. I think its just a load of crap, to be honest. :/ theres no information backing his case. CBD doesn't even mention it on their facebook or their official site. There's no case for it what so ever.

There is the case that CBD might not have posted anything about it but seeing as they post most of there "victories" on there website I would think closing 2,500 miles of ohv forest in california they would boast about it
Right now the forest service plan to open the trail in June we will go check it out then till then we will keep looking

Its true!
Just because its not on the CBD website doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
They were not forthcoming to begin with, right?
No one new this was going down because they hid the truth, they are hiding now!
Here's a story on it and about the lier who helped make it happen...

BRC & CA4WDC were working on this issue like we pay (through donations & dues) them to do but refused help from another powerful org, CORVA. Now CORVA is stepping up to help fix the problem.

Wednesday, April 4, 2012:
The California Off-Road Vehicle Association, CORVA, along with representatives from the Rubicon Trail Foundation and Friends of the Rubicon, met with the Forest Supervisor and personnel from the Eldorado National Forest in an attempt to ascertain details related to the probable closure of 42+ OHV routes, pending further environmental review.
Currently, the routes in question are to remain closed due to a ruling in a lawsuit brought against the Eldorado by the Center for Sierra Nevada Conservation and the Center for Biological Diversity. Regardless of seasonal closure status, the routes are ordered to remain closed, and the Forest Service is preparing the public for the most likely scenario of route closures, pending a new court order. The Eldorado has issued a press release found at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldora...TELPRDB5362068
In the meeting, Forest Service personnel stated; "...there is a high likelihood that these routes, or portions of these routes may be administratively closed for an interim period". It was clear that the intent of the Forest Service is to do the necessary environmental analysis as quickly but comprehensively as possible as needed, in order to reopen these routes to motorized travel, a time frame between 1 and 2 years.
CORVA encourages the 4WD community to continue working with the Eldorado on adopt-a-trail maintenance programs, and actively engage in the NEPA analysis that is planned for the meadow crossings on these 42+ routes. CORVA will support all the 4WD clubs with NEPA education through the Comments Project to insure that the comments made by our community will lead to the reopening of these trails to motorized travel.
We also encourage the community to work together, plan events outside of the closed routes, and CORVA looks forward to working with all the affected communities. Hunting enthusiasts, miners and rockhounders will all be affected by the likelihood of these closures, and it is our goals to bring these communities closer together to combat those entities bent on removing multiple use from our national forests.
The most recent court order issued by Judge Karlton on February 14th is attached.

I'm starting to hear more about this elsewhere, it was even in our towns local news website. So the secrets out. The main reaction is everyone is pissed off that the public land is shut down, so hopefully that means more people will start getting together with organizations like CORVA to stop this. I hope this makes bigger news such as KCRA3 or others that pertain to that area, as the more people who know, the better.
We should start planning on running a different route that weekend just in case. Anyone got any ideas? The Niagra Rim Trail up here in my area is a possibility, although it is much tougher than Squaw Ridge.

There are trails out by my cabin, near the towns of Mammoth and Bishop on the Eastern Sierras that have some awesome trails. But that is pretty far for most people I imagine.

That is a good idea, although according to this site it is only 2.5 miles long

Or, are we finding that the gate at the end of the trail is closed as well? (Which I remeber did not make sense why one gate was locked while the other was open.)

I do not know what happened last year, but am I not correct when I recall that we found the trail to be closed when we hit the trail the first time? Unless, did they form some kind of barrier to the round-about entrance we used?

Last year, all the gates were open and we did not have to find another route to the trail.
This year, most likely all the gates will be closed and the trail will be as well. I will not be running the trail if that's the case, because I enjoy having a clean criminal record and not having my 4runner in an impound yard lol.
Either way we will be wheeling somewhere on that weekend, Hope you can make it! It's been way too long buddy.

Did someone say the IFS guys are gonna try running through the Rubicon this year?!?! J/K...or am I?
I think were just going to have to play it by ear and figure out an alternative should they really keep the trails closed. Now that everyones waking up to this news i have a feeling something will go down and they may come to an agreement since so many are pissed off. 4crawler even posted a link with the name of the woman heading this nonsense - that can't be fun for her esp if some pissed off Pirate guys connect the dots. We have several months before that trail would open, so in the meantime I definitely think we need to "call Curtis" and have him stir the pot, haha.
Even if the Forestry isn't enforcing the closure like some have said on other sites, I'm not risking it in my truck by running a trail that's technically closed. I would be down to try other trails as well if we need to. Perhaps a trail off 80 since most of those seem unaffected. If we need to, we can just link multiple trails in a weekend and camp somewhere.
Anyone know the "other" trails they do during Sierra trek that aren't Fordyce? They have runs for moderately built rigs, not just the guys on 44s.

Im with Bryan on the trail if it says its "closed" and they leave it open I really dont want to risk my truck in the impound. It will be fun to try out a new trail

I am so incredibly bummed about this trail closure, Squaw Ridge is/was my favorite trail. Organizations like CBD are giving 'environmentalism' a bad name. I am a big advocate of environmental protection, but many feel no desire to protect what you can't see and use (i.e. access to these pristine places). I understand that.
Subscribed and hoping this temporary trail closure stays temporary.
