So I found a 4runner and I am interested in buying it. It is a 1998 limited with 121000 miles and has all maintenance records since new. I am going to test drive it tomorrow and wanted some advice on anything to look for.

 

The main issues with these 4runners is the auto tranny fluid mixing with the coolant inside of the radiator. This happens when a section inside the radiator breaks down over time and allows the two fluids to mix. Just check the coolant and look for any weird color change or an oily texture.

Also check the ball joints and tie rod ends, if it really does have good maintenance then this shouldn't be a problem. That is about it for these things, they are really reliable and don't have much problems. Good luck!
