Sell pickup for T100?
I've been crusing craigslist lately and I see some T100s for sale. I've always liked the T100 xtra-cabs and wanted to get some opinions from some of you fellow toyota people!
Right now I own a stock 92' Pickup xtra-cab 4x4 with the 3vze 5spd. 135,000 miles on it. Although this 3.0 hasn't gave me too many problems I fear its probably only a matter of time. Also, the paint has started to go and I figure I'll have to spend round $1500 for a decent paint job. My folks bought my this thing when I was a senior in high school 7 years ago.
I see a stock 96' T100 xtra-cab 4x4 3.4 5spd. It already has the shell i'd want and color I would repaint my truck (grey). Seller asking for $5k. Only catch is theres 230,000 miles on it. 100k more than what I have on my truck now.
Would you guys ditch what I have now and go for that T100? Or is the difference in miles just too much?
I could buy the T100 now and sell my current pickup after. I'm guessing i'd get around $3000 for it.

I wouldnt pay that much for one with 320k. I paid 6k for mine 10 years ago with 150k. Where I live in Nj I can find them all day long for 3-4k with 150k on them.
T100 are awesome, larger overall truck, very roomy, good power out of the 3.4L. Most of the parts interchange with the pickups/4runners of the generation too. Downside to the 5 speeds is the clutch pedal bracket and the firewall need to be welded and fixed (flaw), the hood likes to flex to much in the wind at speed (can be glued back in place) and thats really it.
I have 250k on mine and it just wont die, exhaust finally rotted out last month, the heater core was gummed up and although I blew it out it needs replacement probably, otherwise just basic stuff that goes over time.

i think it depends on your current needs and future plans. basically, the t100 is a larger version of what you have now. Great if you need the extra room and hauling capacity, or for DD activities over current truck. Bad if you plan to make a wheeler and can't fit the larger rig down your local trails.
Dunno what state you're in, but in CA your truck with 135k will likely sell for more than $3k with that mileage, assuming the rest of the truck is clean aside from the paint.

CJM - The one i'm looking at has 230k. I'd try and talk em down closer to $4k. Showing up with a stack of greenbacks does wonders. If the one I was looking at had 150k on it I wouldn't hesitate on buying. Thanks for the feedback!
highonpottery - I don't really off-road anymore; only when I have to get to my destination I'm up in Portland Oregon. I moved here last year from San Diego. In my truck the interior isn't horrible but the dash has a few cracks. Driver seat torn. Stains on carpet. That kind of stuff. I figured if I did sell it i'd start out on craigslist for $4500 and not be in a real rush to sell. Thanks!
I'm still on the fence about it. Any more feedback would be appreciated

I think the t100 is a decent wheeler, not pickup territory but with a 3.4 and the ability to run 33s non lift without rehearing is a plus. The creature comforts in the sr5 model drew me in. I have power door locks, windows mirror, factory cd and cassette, AC and cruise control are all nice.

I wouldnt pay more than 3k for it with 230k. My truck overall is in excellent shape and Id laugh all the way to the bank if I got as much the one your look at it is asking.
For comparison my truck has the following:
96 SR5 x-cab, automatic, 254k, recent t-belt and all associated parts, rad, all new frontend, new body bushings, redone leafs, 32" tires, all new brakes all the way around, interior 7/10, exterior 7/10 (tailgate is primer and one spot of rust by rear fenderwell), steeringbox, etc. Ive had offers for 2500-3000 bucks all the time but I dont want to sell.

7-10k? Do you live in cali?
Do understand every piece of rubber on that sucker might be bad (like mine was around 220k) maybe due to age or possibly due to road conditions around here. I replaced all the body mounts, engine and trans mounts, and all bushings on the sucker.
I do all my own work usually so labor isnt a cost factor for me tho.

I know I'll be doing some wrench turning if I buy this thing. I'll have my pickup around for a few months as a DD if needed.

I own a T100 and must say that I really enjoy the new power and interior size from my old 86' 4runner. The hood does flex, doesn't sip gas like the old 22re but improved power is well worth it. Fitting 31.50's and looking pretty good damn stock also I great improvement. I'm with everybody else on the $4k and 230,000 miles on the engine. I have 125k and was a couple more thousands than the one you speak of.
Good luck

I got mine for $1500 back in November with 178k on the clock with tbelt changed at 150k.
Granted mine although looking mint needed some work.
Parts list
2 upper ball joints -needed
2 lower ball joints-needed
New fuel bracket assembly-needed
2 ujoints-only one was needed
Fuel line-needed
New fuel filter-tuneup
New oil filter and oil change-tuneup
New shocks-needed but I went with more expensive ones
Bushwacker flares- not needed
Reprinted the frame-not needed but looks better
Lift kit-not needed
Front and rear brakes redone.
New wheels and tires-needed but it worked out perfectly because I wanted to run oversized tires anyway.
New muffler-needed
New muffler pipe
New cv- not needed but made sense to change as my other side was recently replaced.
So I have about 3000 in the truck and 1400 for the wheels and tires.
Everything works on mine with the exception of my power door locks won't lock the right side and I have a little bit of a high idle(800rpm)
T100s are great trucks and look great when they are fixed up. Zpd has a cool long travel t, CJMs is cool, toyota boy might run 35s and mine is just a little lift.
My before
My after but at stock height

Well I was going to go look at it today but it was raining, when I texted the seller asking if I could come up and look at it when its not raining they told me it was just sold I asked if he got asking price ($5000) and they told me they got $4400.
I'm not in a rush to buy but I don't see many of these things for sale up here. And that one had EXACTLY everything I wanted. I'm pretty bummed. So the search continues.
jaretstuff- That is one nice looking vehicle you have there!
I guess I'll just keep giving my ol' pickup some love here and there and keep an eye out for the t100 of my dreams.

I check craigslist list about a dozen times a day haha. Sooner or later a good one will pop up. Until then I'll just kinda fix up the pickup I have now. I have to hunt down why my passenger side floor mat is getting wet; right where passenger's feet are. I hope its not rust.

I'm thinking it's the windshield. The molding is pretty old and cracked. Probably have to replace molding if thats the culprit. I'm gonna check the space between hood and windshield where the wipers are and see if theres any rust there first tho.
