I personally would go with the 95 4runner with 3.4 swap. It has alot more power than the 22re. What kind of mileage is on both of those 4runners?

I wonder how different the fuel economy would be, doesn't the 22re get pretty good gas mileage?

22re being 4cyl would probably be better, however after owning a 5vz for 6 monthhs it is more than worth the extra 1.2 liters, gas mileage was around 19-22 anyway

According to the 22re MPG thread, that is about what they are getting. sometimes bigger is better!

My 4Runner (stock) got me at the very best 24mpg. With that being said, now with 31's, a 2" lift and a roof rack plus numerous other goodies weighing her down, I get 19mpg.

My 5VZFE (3.4L) Tacoma gets ~19 city and ~21 highway.

I'd go with the 95 assuming the swap was done correctly. No one likes to clean up others mistakes.

How many miles has he driven AFTER the swap. If very few I would suspect it has issues but if 10k + I'd definitely take the swap.

Having had 2 1st gen 22re and 3rd gen 3.4 there is no comparison in power (especially towing) and gas mileage isn't much different the way I drive.

it depends what each is equipped with too. straight motor the 95 all the way but if its built for crawling and you want a DD its a no go. Either way dont get a 3vze auto like me, its painful sometimes!

WAY too many unknowns to make an informed choice.

my first 4runner

im still deciding which one i want...im wanting the 95 more than the 22re cuz the 95 has everything i want including the lift and the nice 33s and the color i want also but my boyfriend keeps telling me the 22re is better...the problem that is bothering me about the 95 is that my boyfriend looked and the did the swap and then didnt finish mounting the ecu and the egr or the fuse panel under the hood and has a very small oil leak...so that is why i want the 22re more...and the gas mileage too....
