Choices Choices

ok here we go, as you all know, I am not new to these things, but got some options to weed through. If the photos aren't there then the truck was sold and we missed out. Anyway, the girlfriends mother is looking for a non-v8 4wd to replace her 1999 4x4 Chevy 1500 SBC 350 Auto trans long bed pickup. The truck she had before that was a mid 90-s S-10 2wd single cab short bed P/U with a TBI 2.8L 4cyl. 5 sp. trans. Her budget is around the $2500 range. What we don't know for sure right now if she is willing to jump to an Import.

Anyway, here are my choices.

This truck has been listed for sale over two different cities between $2699 and $2400. See below

Apr 20 - 1990 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER, 4X4, V-6 - $2600 (MILFORD) pic
Apr 21 - 1991 toyota four runner, nice shape - $2699 (matamoras 18336) pic
Apr 22 - 1991 toyota 4 runner, 4x4 - $2600 (milford (18337)) pic
Apr 23 - 1991 toyota 4 runner - $2600 (milford 18337) pic
Apr 26 - toyota 4 runner, v-6, 4x4, nice shape - $2699 (milford) pic
Apr 28 - 1991 TOYOTA 4runner, 4x4, v-6 nice shape - $2600 (matamoras) pic
May 7 - 1991 toyota 4 runner, v-6, 4x4, NICE - $2400 (milford 18337) pic

Notice the price jumping around over the first week $2600-$2699 and back again. Yesterday they re-listed it again for $2400.

I am thinking I can talk them down to $2000. But anyway on with the details.

HERE IS A 1990 (BODY STYLE IS 1990-1995)TOYOTA 4 RUNNER SR5 WITH THE V-6 AND AUTOMATIC TRANS. THIS TRUCK OVERALL IS IN GOOD SHAPE. THIS IS 4X4 WITH A NEWER V-6. THIS HAS A AFTERMARKET ALPINE CD IPOD RADIO (WITH REMOTE), NEW FIRESTONE TIRES (2 WEEKS DRIVING) ALL THE WAY AROUND (MUD AND SNOW THOUGH), NEW ALTENATOR, FRESH FLUIDS, NEW EXHAUST(WELL JUST THE TAIL PIPE SECTION), REAR HEAT (YES REAR HEAT), POWER WINDOWS, POWER LOCKS, POWER SUNROOF AND REAR WINDOW, FACTORY TOW HITCH, CRUISE CONTROL GREAT IN THE SNOW, CLEAN INTERIOR (FOR A 1990), AND OVERALL A NICE RUNNING AND RIDING TRUCK. THE ODO ONLY SHOWS 71K BUT I WOULD ASSUME THAT IS WRONG. HAVE A STACK FULL OF RECIEPTS. ON A BAD NOTE: THE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AND THE REAR BUMBER HAS SOME RUST. I WILL GET BETTER PICS WHEN IT IS SUNNY (IF THAT EVER HAPPENS). ASKING $2600 BUT LIL NEG. TXT OR CALL

Yeah I know hard to read with the all caps. And it's listed as a 1990 and a 1991. Almost looks like a fake ad to me but I don't know. Phone number in the ad comes back to a NY City Cell number. But the adds are listed somewhat on the boarder but still 1 hr 45 min away from NYC.

After googling the number I came up with a CL ad in Milford for a Warrior Quad which was flagged for removal. And antoehr one deleted by author.

Anyway, I am not real good with vehicle values, but if this thing happens to be real should I pursue it? Not sure since it's the 3.0 w/ auto trans. She's almost too old to be messing around with another 5sp trans and does live on top of a pretty darn good mountain. She did say to look for an S-10 Blazer / GMC Jimmy, Ranger or something similar. I know the 4.3's are good, but I know they had issues with fuel pumps, and the Auto Rangers were horrible with their transmissions.

Another one of my thoughts was run the VIN number through the dealership to see about the HG recall. Still unsure which years were and were not covered. But thought buy it, have the recall done on it while she still has the Chevy and then she will have a fresher top end and should have no worries on the HG stuff. For now anyway.

I might add more yotas as I find em as well. Maybe a few others but that usually doesn't go well on here.

for what it's worth i'd vote no just due to the 3.0 but to add the shadyness of the add i would keep looking. Those 4runners are a dime a dozen with the 3.0 around here so my opinion is a little biased. Even for 2 grand (and that's cheap) i wouldn't want the head ache that is the 3.0. Knowing some people have had good luck with that motor still has yet to convince me. More bad news than good news when taking it into consideration.

if it ends up being a candidate to buy just go there and tell them you wouldnt have too much problem paying the 2400 but not knowing the true mileage is kinda concerning and tell them your a active member on toyota forums and you know that the 3.0 can be a problem engine but if hes willing to work with with cash tell him 1800 and if they counter offer tell him 2k is the most your willing to pay.
