79 Pickup Limited Edition
Well since I began looking for a new truck after my 87 was stolen I've only come up with junky, overpriced and one that may have been stolen(no VIN #s matched up) trucks. So in order to give a little nice truck balance to my last thread comparing two pretty crappy trucks that were several hours away from me, this came up. I found an absolutely cherry 1979 Toyota 4x4 Limited Edition, and its only a 10 minute drive away! The seller owned it for a year and bought it from the original owner I think. Got a rebuilt engine and either 1, 2, or 367,xxx(5 digit odo), weber carb(CA legal by the way). The only problem is that there is an exhaust leak that makes it bakcfire and some unplugged vacuum lines to the weber. For god knows what reason his boss is making him sell it and buy a more modern and presentable truck, because this is absolutely unpresentable apparently...

I would procede with caution. That truck appears to be far too nice for the money, or at least it appears to be. Make sure that you see the truck in person and do the transaction in person. When I was searching for my first gen pickup, I came across a bunch of bogus craigslist listings from people that wanted me to wire them money and wouldn't meet me to inspect it. I'm not saying the this isn't legit, but since you say it is near by at least you have the ability to verify the quality and sale.
On another note, I have never seen a limited edition badge like that. In 1979 Toyota made 1089 Limited Edition pickups and sent one to each toyota dealership in the US (I actually missed out on buying #1 of 1089 a while ago - it's in CA somewhere). They have a badge on the passenger side dash that lists it edition number and a similar badge on the fenders. Might want to do some research to verify that it is a 1089 limited edition. Although there could be another limited edition that I do not know about.
As far as the exhaust leak and vacuum lines, who cares?! The rest of the truck looks to be in great shape - I'd be willing to over look those minor issues.
Hopefully it is a legit find and you can snag it up.

I took a look at it before I posted this thread. The badge did give me a little concern too as I thought it was supposed to be kinda part of the 4wd badge, but who knows, it was fully optioned. The seller is just some yuppie businessman.

The truck is not a Limited Edition. The badge you see under the 4WD emblem is an aftermarket item (available on Ebay). The present owner probably does know that if I was to guess.

Yeah I did a little research on the Limited Editions and the badge does seem to be right. There was a thread on here about the limiteds with some good info that you posted suncomb.

Yeah in California, $3,900 is not a steal for a nice 1st gen, from what I've seen. I'd say it's a little on the high side, but not out of the ballpark.
Looks nice!
Hard to trust the "it has issues but I'm sure they're minor", but you never know. It's at least in really nice condition as far as the body.

Well after a closer look I've found out that the truck has no smog equipment at all, odo broken and no proof or even the looks that the engine is rebuilt. Mechanic quoted $1500 to get it to smog, main part being a hot air intake for the weber. There are a couple other problems that really wouldn't be a problem for someone who really wants this truck, as it is a pretty sweet truck, but I'm just not able to support a project truck so Its up for grabs to anyone who wants it! I think I'll be looking for a good 1st gen 4runner now. these old trucks just aint gonna work out, every single one down here is a project I dont have room for.
In the meantime you guys can enjoy these two craigslist gems aswell
Ruined 85 Runner
84 "Volvo" This one is actually sweet!

I may be flamed badly for this...but...I kinda dig that 4Runner for some unexplainable reason. I already have an 88 runner. I love it. I think it would be cool to have a low one as well. At this point its already ruined, might as well roll with it. Id drive it, but I wouldnt buy it.

He said he's selling because his boss got tired of him driving such an aggressive truck to work......and lets do ourselves a favor and google top gear toyota, does anybody know what he's talking about? I have never ever ever ever heard of such a video? What is this top gear video...................anyone?
Anyway looks cool though

I really would love to have the time to do things like that Volvo. Really just love how it's something you would never do except for the pure fun of it, and damn that thing would be fun.
