Hey all,

I've always wanted a clean built 1st gen 4runner. I'm considering buying an 86 in SoCal that has a straight body, but no engine and will require a full interior restoration and a respray. I will have about $5-6k to do engine, suspension, bumpers/sliders/lockers (etc.), interior and paint. I want the build to produce a truck that will be 65% island cruiser (top off, tube doors, secure storage, nice to drive, safe, daily driver/ I live in Maui now), 15% work truck (dump runs, pulling logs out of stream with winch), and 20% camping / off-road / rock crawling.

I'm looking for recommendations on how to do this build for this budget. Would you put a 22re back in or go chev 350? SAS? What lift? What winch? How to weatherize interior (RhinoLine?)?

I would also like to find a shop or knowledgeable individual close to Chino CA to do the build.
