I stopped by the closest dealership (Right Toyota, Scottsdale) at lunch yesterday and asked if the FJ came in today (yesterday). Dude said they got three of them on Wednesday morning and all were sold before noon -- and all substantially over sticker. The guy I spoke with sold one of them, and said it was mighty tricked out and stickered at $32,000. It sold for over $38,000! He said he just started calling customers who were on his waiting list and the first guy to arrive bought it for that price. Amazing. It's just a freakin bucket of metal, plastic, and bolts, fellas! Granted, it's nicely put together, but that kind of spending is just foolish economy to me.

I'm with the guy who said he's waiting a few years -- should be able to find one lightly used for a good value.

I'm happy with my taco. And when the time comes, I'll be getting a tundra. Sure the gas mileage will take a hit, but with work, traveling, etc. a bigger vehicle with more people capacity and hauling capacity would be very nice.

I am really happy with: (1) Toyota is finally giving "props" to its offroad legacy , and (2) the reviews/quality of the vehicle.

Having said that, I have the real thing sitting in my garage right now (Stinky!) and it rocks on the trail and on pavement. Looking forward to seeing the FJ cruisers around though (and hopefully on the trail).

I have been reading up on some of the off roading of these over on ih8mud's FJ Cruiser forum, and it seems to be point and shoot with this rig.

In other words, point it to where you want to make it crawl/climb, and it does it with ease.

The aftermarket will be making lots of goodies for this rig.

You know the rules, post them thar pics.

What do you think of the rear and side visibility?
Many are saying over on 'Mud's forum it is poor, and they do not think it offers enough to off road it on trails.

Talking

The visibility is not great, but I don't even notice since my '91 has a shell and tinted glass (so I pretty much wouldn't look out the rear anyways). If you're really worried about visibility one of two things is wrong (you change lanes too much, or you pick bad lines on the trail and have to back up a lot). There's the rear sonar if you want it too.

Let me just say that the FJ kicks major ass, people see it, stop, stare. Then the knowledgable ones say "wow, toyota is going to sell a $h*& load of these".

When I went to pick mine up, some guy was sitting in it thinking he was gonna buy it, ha ha, sorry bud. And PS, there's absolutely no reason anyone should be paying over sticker, if your dealer tries that tell him to f-off.

And be careful, all your friends will hate you cause they're so damn jealous, just kidding, well kinda

I got a great price on mine, in fact when I first started to negotiate with them, they emailed me and told me in person they will beat Costco by over $500.

I am not worried about not being able to see.
I drove two mini trucks before the Runner that had caps on them.
Plus my Runners windows are very dark tinted.

Most of these people complaining about not being able to see probably nit-pic at everything.

I know it is going to be a great vehicle.
Good motor and RR switch on the dash are all that matters to me.

The same thing happened in 2000 when the MR2 Spyder debuted. For some reason, Spyder owners weren't allowed to join the existing MR2 boards so I co-founded one.

Which makes me wonder if the TLCA members will allow FJ into the club?

Hmm, if they already received two, that might be it for this month.

I thought these were going to be priced from 22-25k...whats all this I hear about them being over 30k now?? Maybe its a Scottsdale thing?

I'll be getting one when I see a solid axle hanging in the front.

It's the newness factor. Everybody wants to be the first one to have it, so the price goes way up. No supply and high demand = huge prices.

The East coast dealerships are getting greedy from what I have been reading over on 'Mud's FJ forum.

They are tacking on a $5K service charge, while West coast dealers are letting them go for MSVP.

Even at MSRP the first couple of months will be loaded rigs with the convenience package and upgrade package that together add ~$4,300 to the total. Then start checking off the port installed option (PPO) list and before you know it you're well over $30K. Base models will start showing up in late May/early June, or order one before April 1 for an assured June arrival and equipped to your specs like Corey did.

In San Diego, the one's I've seen have all been around $24k. I finally saw something besides blue, and man the black and the dark wine color are REALLY nice. Add the roof rack to cover all that horrible white roof, and it looks really good.
