Question about the OEM stereo, ERROR 3

I have an '88 4Runner SR5 which came with the Toyota double din radio/cassette tape player. I wanted to get a CD player. I purchased a stereo/CD player from an '08 FJ Cruiser. It is a Fujitsu Ten (Toyota part #86120-35400). It has AM/FM stereo, a single disc player and at the top is written WMA/MP3. I removed my stereo and the FJ Cruiser radio plugged right in. Stereo works perfectly in every regard. When I insert a CD the player attempts to take it in 3 times, then stops and "ERROR 3" comes up on the screen. Any thoughts would be welcome. I don't have the manual so I may not be doing something I need to do to play the CD. There is a button for Disc/Aux, not sure if it needs to be pushed to activate the CD.
The electrical plugs consist of 2--one has about 6 contacts and the smaller one has 4. There are 2 more places for electrical plugs, but I'm assuming these are for an amp/sub woofer and other extras.

Ahhh... Sounds so familiar.

That deck will need repair. Send it in to FujitsuTen for repair.

Common issue. All models.

I found a local guy in Knoxville, TN. He fixed it for $70. It has worked great ever since.
