Pricing an FJ

Hey all, I'm in the Washington DC area and am having a real hard time finding an FJ under $30,000 on a 4X4 V6. Was wondering if this is typical for the rest of the country. I see all these reviews putting them at $23,000 but sure as hell cant find that.

Thanks,

Thomas

True base models will be very hard to find since the dealers add on alot of options and only offer some options with certain packages and I think the base 4wd is over $25k but with the add-ons it seems most are priced closer to $30k.

Yeah, that is typical. I think I have seen them as low as $27,000 but that was once. I paid about $34,000 for mine, but I had almost everything.

In defence, I can say the new Cruiser does perform

got mine with the upgrade package 2 i beleive is what it was , off the lot , no preodrder or anything for around $26,000. id have ot look it up for sure to check on it. but it came with the basic radio/cd player combo, no sub, roof rack , floor mats , and spare tire cover , first aid kit , 6 speed manual 4x4 , with e locker, no a-trac ( haha yet ) and i have the lights in the mirrors thing.
i have heard from friends back east that these fj's are very popular , especcially up in new hampshire , a friend of mine is seeing them all over up there. so im assuming the dealers know they can get good money for them and arent budging on prices whats so ever.

That bugs me that they try to preview it at $23,000. Sounds like I should be happy with my current offer: Blue, package upgrad2, rails, roof rack for $29,500.

I also think it's interesting how the dealers/sales people have been trying to steer me away from the FJ. I know they are trying to get rid of the 2006s but still. I come in and ask to see a FJ and they say "oh those are meant only for offroading" like they know what I want the FJ for. Or..."We have some great Rav4s, highlanders and 4 Runners you should look at" Not that I have anything against those vehicles. But what's up with trying to keep them stocked? I don't see that many in this area and they sure as heck aren't leaving the lot that fast. The same ones I looked at 3 weeks ago are still there.

Try Darcars Toyota in Frederick, MD. It's an easy drive up 270 then to Rt 15.

I've seen several of them under 30K. Not in the 23K range but significantly lower than 30K. Worth the drive.

You may want to take a drive to Hanover, Pa. it's about hour and 20 minute drive but alot of people go there for better pricing. Ask for Arliss Thomas and tell him I sent you. He will treat you fair and do waht he can to get you what you want. If you have any problems let me know. I will e-mail him and tell him to expect a call or visit from a guy named Thomas and That I sent you.

Give my friend Jimmy Payne a call at Bayside Toyota in Prince Fredrick MD. Tell him that Gadget sent you and see what kind of deal you can work with him. He will make a good effort to give you a good deal. I have sent him lots of customers and they all were very satisfied with the deal.

If you don't get anywhere with him, contact the dealership in Bowie. I was by there today getting another load of parts and they must of had 15 of those FJ sitting out front. My guess is that a dealer that has a lot of them would be more willing to make a good deal on one.

FJ under 30K - Good Luck!

I don't know where that 20k FJ is but it must still be in Japan. Nothing I have seen on a lot is under 30k. Worst part is I had to pay 2k over MSRP to get the one I have. (Wife thought it was cute)

FJ Pricing

UH, How does CARMAX Get NEW Toyotas? Think about it just a minute. They only sell USED cars. By definition if a car has been titled then it MUST be sold as a used car. We have a 2006 Tundra with 4 Miles on it at our dealership but because it was titled it is used. It didn't even leave the lot!

As for pricing, Toyota strongly frowns upon dealers that sell above MSRP for any product. I know because I sell Toyotas at a high volume dealership in SE Virginia. Toyota's philosophy is to build customer loyalty for the long term. They have noticed how Ford, GM & Chrysler new cars that hit the market hot but were ruined by Dealer Market Adjusted Pricing. While Cars like the HHR & T-bird are not to my taste, they would have been a bigger hit if dealers didn't ruin the market by getting greedy!

I can tell you that TOYOTA wants to hear about problem dealers! Go to toyota.com and find the "contact us" area. Send them an e-mail. I can tell you that the General Managers will hear from their Corporate offices if enough complaints come in!!! When there are complaints, it DOES affect their PAY!!!

Also, if you go to toyota.com, select configure & price AND you input your zip code, the site will show how the packages are delivered to the dealerships in your area . I can tell you that we get pretty much every available package variable at our dealership with the exception of the 4x2. (who wants that anyway?) Last couple of weeks most of our inventory had the auto trans, the convenience package with upgrade package 1 or 2 to put the MSRP around $30K. This week it seems like most everything has the 6 Speed Manual with the basic convenience package & alloy wheels priced around $27K. Only a few are configured with the auto transmission.

The bottom line is. If a dealer doesn't have a large inventory, its because they don't sell a lot of cars and they just don't have the pull with Corporate Toyota Allocators! AND, they probably aren't following the Dealership Requirements the way they should be! Only dealers that have the best customer service index AND sell in high volume get the most allocations of vehicles!

Check if they have won the President's Award for Customer Service, Check if they have the Scion Dealership within the Toyota Dealership. If both of these are missing, then watch out. You will likely not be treated well!

If anyone needs more help, let me know. But since I am at the dealership most of the time. Please be patient about my replies. If you PM me, I will give you my work e-mail or even Cell # if you are interested in getting more information.

try costco motors. i priced them with convenience pack 2 w/locker and rock rails for $24000, get the price from there then go to toyota by montgomery mall and barter there. my buddy did this with a tundra, sticker was $37000, got it out of there for 30,000 w/platnium warranty($1500). its worth a shot.
