you're the first one to mention the odd angle of the spare tire. Its probably for better air flow but I'd rather have it mounted upright LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE'S!!
Heck, the windshield is more vertical than the spare tire. They also need to slant the windshield slightly - its already aerodynamic as a brick; Get rid of the 3 wipers (good luck finding replacement except at the dealer); Chop those Liberty-looking tail lights off! It looks like a tumor!

It is apparent the spare tire was hastily placed for the pics and auto show debut, I expect it to be different in production. The way it is shown will not work with the hatch and tailgate, so it's gotta change somehow.
The upright windshield is great, it makes for a more "airy" and roomy feeling interior. My wifes Element has a very upright windshield and it is just fine, I don't mind a 0.5mpg loss in exchange for great cutting edge styling

Do you believe so? I really hope so.

Pretty sure, it is the one thing that I really don't like, it just doesn't look quite right.

I think you can forget about the affordability factor when these come out because a lot of people have made up their minds to buy it so expect dealers to jack up the prices. What they need to do is make it uglier

Anyone have a shot of the standard black steelies? hate it when all they show us is a loaded model......

just have to wait a few months after the release and the price will come back down to a realistic TMV. that's what happened with the new 4runners and tacomas. it's mostly for the people who want to have a jump on their neighbors - they pay more for the very first ones . . .

Readers comments from Autoweek:

"I like the looks of the Toyota FJ Cruiser in your cover story, and it will probably sell well to soccer moms, especially at the price you indicated. I wouldn't consider one unless it had a canvas top and a fold-down windshield."

This guy is probably a Wrangler owner in disguised. The canvas and folding windshield would work in the little wrangler but its not possible on this FJ beast!

"My wife looked at the FJ Cruiser on the cover and said it looks like a Mini Cooper on steroids."

Anything on steroids is good you ...

No way they should call that an FJ...they already have the FJ 100, they need a new name if they're gonna make it...i think it looks gay anyways.

There is no such thing as a FJ 100, in the US, the only Land Cruiser currently available is the UZJ100, there is a FZJ105 available in other parts of the world with the 1FZ-FE engine. There has not been an FJ series Landcruiser in North America since 1992, the last year of the 3FE engine in the 80 series FJ80. The FJ Cruiser is based on the same platform as the Prado Land Cruiser which is not available in the US, but the US equivalent, is the capable 4th gen 4runner and the GX470.

sweet - hopefully more people will think like Mr. 1 post and the things will go cheaper - personally, i think it looks a hell of a lot better than the new Tacomas or 4runners, so bully for me.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it looks like the result of a relationship between an H2 and a Jeep.

//TJ// I seriously think your tripping on the MR2 Spyder comment. I will have to defend the new Spyder because my GF just bought one and I have tested this car to it's limits and tested the 01 911 turbo to it's limits. And I can truly say that the MR2 Spyder is fun as hell. Mind you that I'm used to the acceleration of a 03 600RR which is in fact faster than the 911 turbo. That's right, fun as hell! I don't sissy around in a sports car, I drive that thing like it's on rails. The MR2 Spyder can handle it's own in corners and get up and go because it's so light. Rear engine, rear wheel drive , convertible, McPherson suspension. We have a 01 w/ 4,000 miles on it. It's silver with a Borla exhaust. All for under $14,000. Now, think of me banging it in the corners over Laurels Grade the rest of the day. That's the definition of fun. If you think it's a boring as Tofu then sign me up for a vegetarian meal! //TJ//

As far as the FJ is concerned, I like it and can't wait to see one in person. I have always been a big fan of the old landcruisers...

Roger that. I've owned all of the MR2 generations, including two MR2 Spyders. Technically a mid-engined car, there's no greater bang for the roadster buck out there. I drove mine in SCCA Solo II competition and was the fastest car in my class, and usually one of the top three fastest times of the day behind a Z06 Corvette and an SS Camaro because the circuit had some high speed sweepers. In a twist on the old saying, there's no substitute for light weight combined with world class brakes and a nearly perfect balance between power, suspension, brakes and steering. A little more power never hurts, though.

i cant wait to see one in person, ive dreamed of the day ever since i saw the concept , fix the taillights , drop the roof rack ( let me put my own on) and the traction control and such could be left out for cost effectiveness , and ill be in like flynn.

Glad to see this thread was not in the Landcruiser section.
