BT, good info. What is the 4R wheelbase offhand? Just wondering if they shortened for the FJC...overall length seems surprisingly close.

FT, I think Esmond said the FJ will be 12" shorter overall with a 4" shorter w/b than 4R. Really short overhangs, should have good approach/departure angles. FJ is an inch wider with ½" more ground clearance. I'm guessing, but with the minimalist interior, less glass area and shorter length, it should weigh substantially less, maybe < 4,000 lb.

Thanks BT, yeah it will be a good offroader. 4" shorter and what rr suspension? Taco leafs or 4R coils? I'm guessing leafs- economics. It will have that "rugged" buckboard ride but then again, price.

well I can account for the width and ground clearance= stock 265/70's. 4R is 265/65 stock.

Yes it should weigh less but w/ the third door structure and C/D pillar design, I will be surprised if is any less than a AccessCab Tacoma- probably more.

FT, I was wondering about rr suspension too. Esmond said FJ will be built on a modified 4R frame suggesting coils all around. Here's another photo with what looks like a longitudinal control arm (coils) visible.

yeah I saw that too BT. Maybe they need coils since the wb is short...but for that pricepoint it seems like it won't happen for production?

Boy I really want one!

If I am alive by 2006 I will buy one, I totally like the FJ...My uncle in Colombia South America has a 78 with 400kms on the original engine and it only has original parts. It is beautiful and it is his daily driver. I would love to continue the legacy

Whats the diffence between the FJ cruiser the 4th gen SR5 V6 4Runner?

Besides the body (obvious)
Rear Locker
Available 6 speed Manual

The rest of it seems to be the same as the 4runner to me.

As well, what do you think the electronic four-wheel traction control is about?

I likey! It will need a 2-3" lift and some 285's though! I am also curious about the front end. I hope they offer a locker there also. Doesn't the Heep Rubicon have front & rear lockers??

shorter body, shorter wheelbase, 1inch wider, lighter, probably about $10k cheaper, probably no leather or DVD player, rubber/vinyl "wipe down" interior, rear opening rear doors, totally different interior setup, likely a slightly lower & flat load floor, totally different style, etc.

Ehh, i think it's kinda fugly. Like a moon rover or something.
It's the brother of the Honda 'Leggo' Element.

I'd take a Jeep Rubicon or original FJ40 over it anyday.

I hope they integrate the brakes lights a bit better. They look goofy, other than that and the very wide rear roof pillar, I kind of like it and if the price is kept down might even buy one in 2008 of course. Nevr buy 1st year, even if its a Toyota.
